hi there, I've been married for 30 years next year and want to treat the missus to a nice holiday, probably last week of Feb/first week march. we both like the spanish beach holidays but want to benefit from the £/$ windfall so are looking for somewhere in US that has nice beaches. i have been to Orlando on business and the weather was good in feb but havn't got a clue as to where the beaches are. i don't fancy the carribean etc. Can anyone recommend a location in the US that will be hot in Feb and has some nice beaches, bars etc
Thanks
Naples or Fort Myers are usually pretty good at that time of the year and with some nice beaches. Florida Keys may also be worth a consider.
There are other beaches, one in Key West and also beaches at the John Pennekamp State Park but neither is my idea of a relaxing beach holiday. By all means take a visit, but for other things than beaches.
I would stick to West Coast Florida, or maybe even South Carolina...although it might be too early in the year for both I'm afraid.
I think your best choice would be on the west coast of Florida. February or March might still be a bit cool but the waters of the Gulf of Mexico tend to stay warmer than the Atlantic. Consider Sanibel Island or Captiva Island. There are many accomodations down there which you can find on a quick yahoo search and probably quite a few private villas too.
Worth remembering that Feb and March are high season for the west coast of Florida. Lots of Canadians and Americans from the northern states in search of warmer weather.
We loved Fort Myers and have just come back after a lovely holiday there 2 weeks ago.
Regards
Ann
