Naxos is one of our favourite islands and we flew to Mykonos and then got a flying dolphin to Naxos via Paros. Next time I would choose the Hi Speed Cat as this trip can be (and was!) rough. We stayed in the Galaxy Hotel within an easy walk of Naxos Town. Greek Sun are very good re. travel arrangements usually via Athens.

Hiya,

We are going next Friday. We've done it loads before. You should fly LGW-JMK (Mykonos) with Easyjet. You'll get a really good price if you book well in advance. Going into Athens is ok but its more hassle to get to the port, even with the new metro, and its more expensive to fly to the islands.

What we are doing is, fly into Mykonos, taxi to port, ferry to Naxos (about 8 Euros) staying there for four nights. We will then get the ferry to Ios, two nights and two nights somewhere else (Paros, Sikinos or Folegandros) then Santorini for 11 nights!! Quality.

Its an absolute doddle to get about. The ports are absolutely fab aswell. Great atmosphere. Dont stress about booking accommodation either, there will be loads of people ready to greet the ferry.

Its a really excellent trip. We are travelling with a two year old aswell and are really looking forward to taking him. Id fully fully fully 100000% recommend it. Naxos is a great island aswell.

Enjoy! :tup

We've been travelling to Naxos (amongst others) for many years now. As previous contributors have said, getting there is really easy. We always fly into Athens on one of the overnight flights (BA or Olympic) which arrive about 4am - excellent prices from BA if booked well in advance. Olympic are a bit more hit and miss but my advice would be to call Olympic's London Office (08706060460) rather than use their website - prices quoted are invariably better.
I disagree with the previous poster regarding travel from the airport to Piraeus - it couldn't be easier. The bus leaves from outside the Arrivals Hall (24 hr service). Just remember to buy your ticket before you get on and validate it as soon as you're on. The morning ferries leave Piraeus about 7.30-8.00 and you have a choice between High Speed (3.5hrs), Blue Star (~ 5 hours) or 'slow' ferry (6+ hours). The faster the boat, the higher the ticket price.
Flying to Naxos from Athens is an option, but flight times do not tie in well with connections from London, there is only one flight daily which gets booked up well in advance and flights are often delayed, if not cancelled. Another option is to fly to Paros - there is an early morning flight which ties in well with the London flight. It is then easy to get a boat across to Naxos from Paros - there are many connections daily. If you do fly, and have used Olympic from London your internal flight price is heavily discounted.
On return, morning boats (Blue Star ~9.45, High Speed ~11.00) get you back in plenty of time for the evening return flgihts to London, which depart about 7pm.
If you do decide on Naxos, you won't regret it!
