Hi Birdie

We are doing much the same, have been to Goa 6 times in the last 8 years but its changing, not for the good, so trying Thailand for the first time.

We fly out 16th Dec, 3 nights in Bangkok then 10 in Phuket and have also booked at the Pacific Club Resort. It has some amazing reviews on Trip Advisor so it will be interesting to get your view on the place before we go.

After Phuket we go to Hong Kong for 5 nights over New Year so can't wait, I'm sure I'll go back to Goa again but not for a few years.

I'll try and get a review in before you go, I agree with you, I have not seen a bad report about the place, we were a little concerned that it may just be a little out of the way but we are travelling with another couple and they will share taxi cost. Did you get the package deal. I'm also loooking forward to Bangkok, the hotel we are staying in has got some good reviews and the price was good for November. Like you we have been to Goa many times(12) but have to agree things are changing not for the good.

I know others will have differing views but I think with 3 days in Bangkok and it being your first time, you might be better with a guide. Bangkok can be a bit overwhelming to begin with but actually it is easy to get around. Do you have 3 full days there?
The Imm Fusion does seem to be a bit out but close to the skytrain. I've never heard of this one and was surprised to see it so highly rated in TA. However, it does appear to be new and a lot of the reviews are written in exactly the same style ;) One thing about HTs hotel reviews- we do not allow reviews from anyone posting from the same place- it helps to cut out reviews from the owners( and also bad reviews from rival hotels) I've asked for it to be added to our own reviews so hopefully we will have some reviews of it before you go :)

Doing likewise myself, although I've been to Thailand a few times before. Staying at the Pullman King Power in Bangkok, then 3 weeks at a villa in Samui. Not till February though, but cant wait!

Birdie, et al - enjoy Thailand, far different from Goa and a great experience.

With regard to what to do in Bangkok, there are some 'must do's' posted on the forum. http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=75947

With regard to needing a guide - life is much more straight forward than in Goa - you might like to try the DIY tour, linked from
http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=1086795#p1086795 . As you seem to be close to the skytrain, getting about is simple (and air conditioned!)

Enjoy,

Peter

Mee too,,,

Was in Goa last Christmas but going to Thailand for a second time this year.

To be honest I was put off by Goa by:

Visa's
My 14 year old would enjoy Thailand a lot more for various reasons.
The grottiness of Goa
All the rip offs in India

We're also giving Goa a miss next year, visa hassle p***ing me off and also air fare prices, so have a good deal for BKK 24 Feb, we'll decide nearer the time where to go, but I must have my fix of shoe shopping in MBK at some time, and also Pratnuam market and Patpong if my bargaining skills are still up to it!

Liz, if you do all three in a day that equates to being a total junkie not just a fix :D
Now me being a bloke, you're not supposed to like shopping but i find it quite cheerful in BK.
Dish out plenty of Kop Kun Ka (female) Krap if you are male, and the sellers take on an easier pitch, unlike back in Goa where they seem to have lost their sense of humour.
Don't know if you have done it before, but if you are in Pratunam market, a ride to the top of the Baiyoke Tower is worth the £4.
Good luck

Eddie101 - even for me those 3 places in 1 day is a bit too much :D
If I don't get lost in Pratunam market I may well take the trip up to the top of the Baiyoke tower - I keep saying I'm going to do it, I'm sure the view will be well worth it.
Cheers
Liz
