hi , in magaluf you can use sterling , i use the tobaconist opposite mulligans no problems
hope it helps , also you will get a better rate of exchange in palma than england .

Thanks Jim, I wasn't aware of that probably because I've never tried to pay in sterling!

I know of a few "Cig Runners" who don't change the money into euros, but who pay in Sterling at Tabacos. They seem to give a better rate than Exchange Offices, as well. Whether it's the same place as Big Jim mentions, or they all do it, I don't know.
