where do i start::: local bread rp2 packet milk what is on the packet, they have started to realize what the MRP is on the packets and it has been advertised on tv only pay what on the packet.if you dont get it for that price dont buy it!!
elephant rides and photos on the roadside never pay more than rps150 the money does not go to people with special needs/old folk in just goes in their pockets.
I know going to the markets is fun but some of the local shops are much much cheaper incense box will cost you rp150 in the market rp45 in the shops
in calangute there are lots of shops selling novelty items with fixed prices you can still haggle when you get the bill.
sandles with beads rp150max
incense sticks from fish market rps10 a packet
bed covers with mirrors very nice but not at all practical be careful to soak in salt to set dye before you wash them best dry clean and dont pay more than 1500 I heard of a lady paying rp7.500 nearly 100pds rip off!!!
i will think of a few more later ned to put my grandson to bed now.
My favourite is 1kg or just over 2lbs of best fillet steak is 150rps. How much is it in the restaurants!!! Yes profit has to be made but wish I could have made that % when I sold steak meals.
Come on all you longtermers- tell us the real prices we should pay!
it amazed me this season guys selling newspapers on the beach for rps30 when the herald and navind is rps3, i know they walk up the beach, also strawberies from fruit sellers rp50-100 per punnet market rp20, bananas average rps 2, ice creams local rp2-5 but i never touch them, cornettos no more than rps20 on the beach rp15 in the shops, meat is getting expensive chicken up to rp70 per kg and undercut steak fillet rp180
Yes if it's any store that puts labels over the MRP simply go to the next. If the shop owner doesn't want your custom for whether it's 2 or 4 weeks it's their problem. If it's marked (printed) at that price that is what should be paid.
Yes incence costs pennies literally, don't buy at Ingo market.
CDs at Tibetan market are cheap and often don't play well (or rip to MP3).. I know they are only 150/200 RS. Go to Mapusa or Panjim (Sonaris CD/DVD) and buy the real thing (more expensive) but bigger choice and some real gems that are sold over here under World music categories at £12- £16 and only 250 -350 RS for top quality recordings... especially Indian classical. I bought 4 Zakir Hussein CDs for around 1200 RS which would have cost more than 3000 RS here (if you can get them). There are a few CD shops in Calangute/Candolim but didn't have the really hard to get music.
The assistant in Sonaris always smiles when I walk in each season as I spend around 4000/5000 Rs and come out with some great music, they are very helpful when buying both modern (chill/crossover) and trad/classical Indian music. Also very cheap Indian comedy and bollywood on VCR at around 125RS, bought some just for the experince and a laugh even though the comedy I couldn't understand.
i normally pay 175rps a piece off raju down by the calamari in candolim.
always been happy with that!
My view has always been is if I am happy with the price I am paying for something and the seller is happy, it has been a good deal. If somebody else pays a few rupees less then well done but at the end of the day I still feel I have got a bargain compared to what I would pay in the u.k.
Totally agree, we have no way of knowing what the true price of anything is. So you can only go by what you are happy to pay and that you feel you have a deal that suits you.
i had an indian suit made in the tailors at the phoenix park.it was "bollywood style" with bootcut trousers, long tunic top and scarf in chiffon type material with silver embroidery for 1000r.i thought this was good as it fitted perfectly.was this a good price?
Sounds like a very good deal. Just over £12 for a full outfit, wonderful!! My best deal on handmade clothes was shorts and matching top, including the price of the material for under £8.
Last year I bought 2 lovely beaded long sleeve indian tops. 200 rps for both.
sunglasses 100rps
10 lovely bead necklaces all different 100rps the lot
Never paid more than a 100 for a nice t shirt
Taxi's well I would rather get the bus up and down the sinquerim to baga strips.
