Neil,

As we well know they will try to get whatever they can and its people who compare goan taxi prices with what we pay here that make it worse.I have found it getting much worse the last couple of years and try to walk as much as possible on principle.

Papa,

Yes I agree. I don't have a car so I know about overpriced Taxis in Edinburgh, it's the most expensive place to stay outside Edinburgh. Taxi from Goa to Mumbai under £100 ... try travelling that distance here by Taxi.... multiply by 7 at least.

The problem with Goa is that the Goans now know what we pay over here and with things going up it will still be the same cost as a %age.

I don't really eat much standard UK food so won't be getting stuffed for English 'delights' (also no cocktails and wine is poor in Goa) so it's difficult to overcharge on some items. WATCH TIGER PRAWN PRICES ... they shouldn't be rising. Even if I have to pay 500RS for veg curry rice and chapati/roti (no way it will get this high) it will not bother me but it's never going to rise to UK prices. Oh and a G&T or Honeybee isn't breaking the bank.

I'll be spending the first 2 weeks in Nov at Benaulim so I will be walking a lot and getting used to the sun before heading North for the next 2 weeks, I will be resigned to using some taxis as I am staying at Baga Creek and want to spend my days anywhere between Anjuna and Ashvem, I will however be walking over the hill to Anjuna/Vagator or taking buses via Mapusa. I don't mind using the Taxis but it won't be near as much, since I haven't had a holiday in over a year I have a bit more money to spend anyway. But for me I believe in quality experiences so I'm not too fussed about the continuing Goa:Cheapness ratio as to speak. IT'S STILL CHEAP

When I went to Goa 8 years ago I'm sure I paid £850 for 2 weeks at Marquis in Candolim... You could not get a holiday for £500!

Although I agree that holidays are getting more expensive , due to worldwide inflation, I
feel that certain hotels in Goa are excessivly increasing their prices, here is my personal experience -
For the last four years we have had a three week , most enjoyable , stay at the Radisson White Sands hotel. The last visits arranged privately with the hotel. Last Christmas we called in to make arrangements for March, to be told that it would be a pleasure to welcome us back, and by the way the price has almost doubled :really
Sadly this was above our budget, so we made alternative arrangements. It would seem it was also too high a price for the tour operators, as this hotel is no longer included in the European brochures, along with the Galaxy hotel and Club Mahindra in the south.
This is just my opinion, but I think an increasing number of hotels in Goa, are looking to what they see as a more lucrative market - ie business guests for conferences, and the increasing number of middle class domestic tourists.
They may be in for a shock x lassi

For scheduled flights via various places, 4 years ago we paid about £600 each. Since then the price has come down every year to £386 each this year. Maybe I am getting better at finding good deals!!
