hello everyone!
We're going on hol on the 19th of july and staying at the marvel. Has anyone been there?
Also- never been to Bulgaria before. Could anyone tell me how many levs to a pound and what's the average cost of a meal and a bottle of wine for example?
Finding this site helpful for ideas- looking forward to getting away!
Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Current rate of exchange in the resort from banks is 2.44 for sterling notes. Less from hotel exchange desks.
Whatever you do do not use any money changing booths UNLESS they have a blue crown on them. If in any doubt stick to the banks.

Went to Djannys twice. Both times it was very cheap:
4main meals
1 bottle of wine
6beers
3 vodka mixes
totalled about 25lev each (£12)

It is a large, modern hotel directly behind the even larger Victoria Palace hotel. Very near the beach and good end of the prom/front strip. Nice bars and restaurants near by on the prom. You can walk to the centre via the prom in about 15 - 20 mins, or go up to the main road and catch a local bus to centre in a couple of mins (only 1 Lev each for any stop).
Exchange rate in hotels on Saturday 12/7 was 2.36 to 2.40 Lev to £1. We never used the banks or Crown Exchange booths as it was far quicker to change money in our hotel (stayed at the Ivana Palace and got 2.36 Lev, and could put money straight in the safe if necessary).
We ate out every night and on average paid 50 - 60 Lev (£20-£25) for the two of us (starter, main meal, drinks and 2 bottles of water). Cheapest was DJanny's where we paid only 29 Lev (£12) for two Italian meals and a round of drinks, but VERY busy/hectic, and a bit overrated.
Good selection at the Friends Restaurant under the CONDOR hotel near to the Marvel, more geared to Brit food.
For a good night out book for "Khan's Tent" meal and show (it's NOT a tent - it's a round restaurant up on the hill overlooking SB), cost us £29 each via Balkan Hols Rep, included coach there and back (7.30- 12), bottle of wine per person on table and a good show, followed by music/dancing from 11 to 12, Balkan go on a Thursday & Friday and it seemed to be mostly Brits on the Thursday we went.
Hope this helps, enjoy SB, we did and it was our first time, but won't be our last
Marvel Hotel in northern part of the resort, much quieter than the centre. Khan's tent ok, fantastic view from there, but from the Marvel, you are near Jozhni Noshni, similar show, but you can go to the restaurant or just go for a drink. 3lev for a large beer. To find this restaurant just follow the beach promenade, past the Helena resort, right to the end.
Could also reccomend the Jozhni Noshni, as we have been to it many times as it used to be called the dolphin restruant and we stayed at the Fiesta Beach close by the Marvel just watch as there are steps not so well lit at night when coming out of the Jozhni Noshni. If you fancy a meal the food was also quite good and if you booked for a meal you usally got a better seat for the show and not too expensive.
