We spent 2 nights at the Library House Guest House in Ironbridge in July 2008 and are already planning our next visit. The attitude of the owners can make or break a guest house and I think this is one of the reasons why the Library House gets such consistently excellent reviews. We stayed in the Milton room and it was lovely - the bed is huge and very comfy and the chaise longue is perfect for curling up with a book (see their website for pics - http://www.libraryhouse.com ). The walk in shower in the bathroom was also great, although we nicknamed it the ‘walk into' shower as both of us collided with it during a night-time loo trip! We had tea and coffee in the guest lounge when we arrived and also had the option of having wine or beer there (at very reasonable prices). I was a bit worried about being disturbed by outside noise as the windows were single glazed, but Ironbridge is very quiet at night so this wasn't a problem.
Like many others before us, we were persuaded into having a reservation made for us at Restaurant Severn for the Saturday night (INVALID URL The food and service were superb and we would definitely go back again. We also ate in a fantastic Indian restaurant called the Pondicherry (INVALID URL which is based in the old police station. The breakfast at the Library House also didn't disappoint - you fill in your order form the night before and then everything is cooked fresh when you come down to breakfast. Liz and her family are very sociable and will stop to talk to you when they are not busy rustling up something delicious for you.
The only very minor downside is parking as much of Ironbridge is covered by double yellow lines. We found that the car park on the opposite side of the bridge was the most convenient - when you arrive, one of you can wait with the car while the other walks over the bridge to get the parking pass from the Library House itself.
Ironbridge has plenty of attractions nearby to keep you busy - we visited some of the Gorge museums (INVALID URL and also went on the Severn Valley Railway (check the timetables at http://www.svr.co.uk before you go). And in the Library House itself there's always Fizz the dog who will kindly allow you to spend some time fussing her. The Library House and surrounding area are very much worthy off all of their 5 stars!
Thanks for the review Corinne. I see that you have asked separately for the Library House to be added to our reviews database, and hopefully that will happen shortly.
