Hi
I have spent the last few hours trawling through this site for information and trying to get an idea about Egypt.
Basically hubby and I would like to spend 7-10 days max in November. (temp is around 80F then ??)
Here is the basic wish list..perhaps too much to try to do in a week but any advice welcome
Pyramids/Sphinx - I am getting the idea that Luxor is the best place for this.
Possible short Nile boat trip (2 days) -possibly including the above rather than do seperate ?
Chilling out for the rest of the time sunning ourselves.
Places I have read about on here which sound really nice is El Gouna and Marsa Alam ?? are these near enough to do the above ??
Finally advice on hotels - we would want to do AI.
Many thanks
Tina

You are a bit out with this one !
The Pyramids and Sphinx are both located in Cairo which is over 300 miles North of Luxor
I would suggest that you perhaps book a Nile cruise departing from Luxor and a week in one of the Red Sea resorts.
From either Luxor or the Red Sea resort you can take a flight to Cairo and spend a day (plenty of time to see Pyramids, Sphinx and the Cairo museum) or stay for a couple of days.
Do you intend to book this independently or as a package holiday ? the information we can give is a little bit dependant on what way you are travelling.
The first time we stayed for any length of time in Egypt, we had 2 weeks in Luxor. From there, we took the overnight train to Cairo during the 1st week, stayed over 1 night so we could take in the Sound & Light Show at the Pyramids and travelled back the following night to Luxor.
The 2nd week, we took an overnight trip to Hurghada for a day out snorkelling at Gifton Island.
We've visited Egypt many times since then and we often travel around by train or mini-bus without difficulties and thoroughly enjoy the experience!
Internal flights can easily be booked on Egyptair.com and prices are usually very reasonable so best to base yourself perhaps in the middle somewhere as previously suggested, which gives you a number of different options.
- You can fly to Cairo from Luxor and can get flights to Luxor very easily from UK. The flight is a little less than an hours journey.
Or, base yourself in Luxor, take a 3 night cruise to Aswan which includes all board, food and excursions, fly from Aswan to Cairo (similar time distance as flight from Luxor) and then take another flight to Sharm.
Or fly to Sharm first, then onto Cairo for a couple of days, take the overnight train to Luxor for another few days and fly back to UK from Luxor on a charter flight
The planning of such a trip is great fun and there are plenty of people on here who can point you in the right direction of places to stay etc...
Most of all - ENJOY
