If there is anything else you want to know out Gumbet just ask, I lived there for a few years so I should be able to help.
Kedi
thank you for the reply, I shall certainly try those places out! I went to Gumbet several years ago when I was twenty something, so spent most of my time on bar street! How things change when you get a bit older ha ha! I've been told that Seray Zetas is a good place to eat, we are staying at Gumbet Cove Hotel (me) and Seray Class (my cousins) so if you have any advice as to other great eateries I would be grateful. oh and the best place for a Turkish Bath x Thanks again x
staying at the Hotel Serpina . Would like to know best places to eat, bars, shopping .
Thanks
Lynne.
not sure how old your daughter is but when I went to Gumbet several years ago I was in my twenties and went down bar street every night, for the livliest bars. Since joining these forums I have also been given a few recommendations for places to eat. Seray Zetas seems to be regarded quite highly, also cafe columbia was recommended, planet yucca, chinatown is another. Unfortunately I can't personally recommend any of these as I haven't been but I thought i'd pass on some of the info I had been given.
Hotel is only 5 minutes from town centre
the bar and restaurant next to the hotel are very good as well
we are both out of our 20s and found
good day time bar on a sunday, wednesday and friday is ladybird on the beach live music.
Paddys bar opposie a taxi rank is brillant for breakfast and uk tv(not that we watched any) Adam will sort any problem you have.
Froggys underneath the windmill is a really good karoake bar (little bit more expensive)
LWT is really good for cheezy music (near burger king), just check your bill!!
Both irish bars across from froggies are good also
if you want a quiet night go down to the beach bars where most bars do shows each night and music isn't as loud as bar street
My flower opposite suncity hotel, down the road from central bar is excellent for steak 18oz t-bone £9 and has live music at night.
Bombay Palace (we didn't make it) is meant to be really really good owned by a couple from inverness.
also don't know the name walk past the windmill and froggys go right and you will find the cheapest bar 60p for a beer!!!
hope this helps
Seray Zetas is probably the best place to eat in Gumbet, they do authentic Turkish food and it is very reasonably priced. If you want to try somewhere else that does good Turkish food then I would recommend 01 Adana, it is on the way out of Gumbet towards Bodrum, just jump on the dolmus and aks the drier to let you off there.
thank you all for your replies, been very helpful, will print the replies off so she can take
thanks for all the advice I will certainly try as many places as I can. I can't wait!!!!!!!!
If you like Chinese food the Far East is very nice. Stayed in Bitez and had it recommended to us. They sent a car to our hotel in Bitez to fetch us. After our meal they offered to take us back but we said we were going for a wander around Gumbet. That was no problem, they told us to come back when we were ready, have some coffees then they took us back!
good tip is remember the name of a restaurant and when others start hassling you say you are going to that restaurant as you have been in before they are giving you a bottle of wine or beer etc and 15% off.
Won't take them long to match the offer. Worked all week for us
enjoy
that sounds a great tip, we will certainly try it. I'm dreading the hassling to be honest I remember it from a few years ago and it got on my nerves then. Oh well never mind I'm sure I'll get over it but any tips on fending people off without offending them would be good.
The hassling wasn't as bad this year, as previous years.
The tip we use is at breakfast time say you have eaten in the hotel. Normally no hassle at lunchtime apart from the shops just say you have no money on you, you are just out for a walk.
At night best way to get away is that you are meeting friends at x restaurant or bar at x time and you are running late, just don't past the restaurant/bar/shop again 5 minutes later.
They will back off.
Have a great holiday.
Ha ha, they have heard everything before and they know you are fibbing when you say these things
wouldn't surprise me if they have heard it before but it still works, or it did for me a fortnight ago
you lose nothing trying it
killienutter thanks for your help before i went to altinkum great holiday and i saw the apartments you were in looked nice
Thanks I will try it, either that or take a Turkish man along with me ha ha! That obviously does the trick! Anyway thanks for the tips
Philippa
Having two half Turkish children seems to do the trick for me too Philippa
Or try tutting an raising your eyebrows, that's what the Turks do - it means no, without saying it, a bit like shaking your head.
hi suzie glad you had a great holiday
yep i'm trying to get a deal for next year to the same place
