Hello - just joined my name is David. I'm not sure if I have posted this in the correct section as I couldn't seem to find anything specific to my question. Sorry if I have broken rules.
My question is :
My friend and I are both 37 year old males. We are looking for a package deal in September this year (2008) from Manchester. We are not gay partners - just best mates.
Our rules are : Not Spain or Costas.
However, we are still very young at heart and want lots of bars, pubs, supermarkets, waterparks etc....
We have done everything in our youth - i.e. Benidorm, Palma Nova, Magaluf, Kavos, Sidari etc.. and although we want lively - we don't want thousands of teenagers or major discos.
Can anyone help?
Yours
David
If you fancy Turkey then try Marmaris.
I am very well travelled - I have been to loads of places when I was younger and really really love Spain and the Costas - just this year we want to try something different.
I will certainly look into Marmaris - is it expensive? I forgot to say - my budget for accommodation for the week is £300.
David
Im going 18th aug for 2 weeks room cost me £132 & thats for 3 of us on a sc basis. Ive also done the "18-30" scene but now in my mature years i dont think you can beat marmaris it caters for all ages from kids to clubbers to oap,s hope you find the holiday you want good luck. Oh & im a very young 47
im a young 46, and in my opinion you really cant beat marmaris... I go every october with my 3 daughters and all love it... as has already been said, there really is something for all age groups!
we all think the same turkey is your best bet bordrum is good too . go to the turkey forum and you will get any advice you need ,ask any question and you will be replied to to by someone who has been many times
Have you considered the Algarve? I think the Old Town could be just what you are looking for - lovely setting, lots of good bars and restaurants, fabulous beaches, choice of 3 waterparks and, of course, plenty of supermarkets! Boat trips, jeep safaris, walking along the coast .... the list goes on. Not sure about package prices but all the budget airlines fly to Faro and you might be better doing a DIY booking. Come over to the Portugal forum and see what you think.
Wherever you go, have a great time!
my vote is for marmaris or icmeler too, your money goes further than anywhere that has the euro with it being so strong against the £, marmaris and icmeler are both lovely places
Thanks for all your recommendations. I forgot to add something to my original request. I can't stand the heat. I got burnt yesterday in the UK !
I think about 25 is my max.
What do you think now?
Thanks.
David
Marmaris is very hot at the moment so maybe too much for you, but i should imagine the temperatures drop by september not sure always gone in july/august.
Budget is not high so limited in what you can get. Maybe a holiday which is allocated at the Airport but then you don't want the Costa'a
Sue
My vote still goes with Albufeira given your dislike for the high temps in September
although I would recommend it for a holiday - we love it there!
We were there last year (last 2weeks of Sept) and it in the top 20's early 30's...really glorious!
I'm hoping for more of the same this year!
How about Malta? St Julians may fit the bill?
However, my friend snores - can anyone recommend a holiday company that specialises in apartments or villas that have 2 bedrooms so that I can get a good nights sleep.
My friends go to villas every year - but they pay about £2,000.00 - and we are certainly not look at this - we will pay about £400 each.
Thanks everyone!
Protaras is lovely by the way and our hotel (Kapetanios Bay) was great too.
David
You will always pay a high price for accomodation with two bedrooms if there are only two of you travelling - these apartments are designed for 5-6 people (including sofa-bed in the lounge area), and the owners/travel companies will expect to receive payment equivalent to 5-6 people. Have you thought about a one-bedroomed apartment? One of you could sleep on the sofa bed in the lounge (they're actually quite comfy).davey102001 wrote:can anyone recommend a holiday company that specialises in apartments or villas that have 2 bedrooms
Yes - we are going to look at a 1 bed apartment - it's just an argument as to who gets the bed and who gets the sofa.
We've done this before and it hasn't worked!
David
we have used private apartments for the last 3 holidays, saved us a fortune, just get your own flights and your away !!!!
cheers,
juby
I agree with Juby, private rental has saved us an absolute fortune over the years.
