it does make a difference when you book though, i mean we found our hol to cuba orig booked in september for this may dropped by about 100 each by dec and about 250 each by march/april. Looking now for next may its about the same as we originally booked for last september.
I think its more in Europe where the big price increaces are.
Just priced up a repeat holiday with portland direct in side turkey at hotel hemera and was quoted £2500 for two adults and one child for two weeks all inclusive ,this year i paid £1750 for exactly the same holiday on exactly the same dates and flights ,i know things have gone up but not by 45% i will staying home next year if prices do not drop.
what time of year did you book last year though? It does make a difference as travel agents have sales on at certain times etc
I'm finding most holidays are a lot more expensive than they used to be. I think for next year we will wait untill very last minute and hopefully get a late deal!
What a difference 48 hours makes
Edit * Just had a look again today (Saturday 23rd), (really shouldn't cause if the cost went down i'd be depressed ) and now the price on the same flight would be just over £5600 !!!!!!
So I should feel less guilty now over spending so much on our hol, cause really it was a bargain!

I think the prices will go down as time goes by because the TO's will have to sell the holidays somehow, but they will lose money because of the high fuel costs and the poor exchange rate, so I think it's likely they won't allocate as many places/flights etc for Winter 2009/Summer 2010 in order to make enough profit to keep afloat at a time when a lot of people are struggling to afford even the cheap bargains.
sounds really good
im trying to book a holiday for 4 adults 2 children (6 and 4) and 1 infant (1) from manchester any time after may 20th 2009 any board
Booking direct we can get the same prices as we've paid for this year for a 10 night stay in Cala D'or and an up-grade on acommodation though this years was excellent and the flights that are showing for Monarch are cheaper than what we paid for them this year. Going to wait for BMI baby to release their flights to compare. I can do the holiday diy for roughly £2300, Thomson want over £3000 for 7 nights!
I have been trawling the internet to try and find a holiday to the maldives for us ( a once in a lifetime one) and the prices are really high and creeping up daily! I can't get over though how First Choice and Thomsons are now part of the same company yet First Choice has exactly the same holiday, in the same place, on the same dates, on the same flights etc for over £500 cheaper!
Hi Val, have you tried Eclipse Direct? They are the direct selling side of First Choice and they tend to come out cheaper than first choice.
Eclipse will no longer exist after the Winter 08/09 season. Thomson/First Choice are recommending customers who wish to book "direct" from Summer 09 onwards should look at Portland.shell wrote:Hi Val, have you tried Eclipse Direct? Oops thanks for that, it's been over 3 years since I booked a holiday with them but we did get a good saving at the time
Try Mercury Direct. Their prices can be very reasonable. Google for them.
