My husband wasdefinitely against goiong but I was determined after hearing good reports from a neighbours visit to Marmaris.

We booked a price breaker with Thomson and it would either be Marmaris or Icmeler on arrival. We got Icmeler and loved every minute. My husband who said he would not be able to eat anything did not stop tucking in all fortnight, spicy food that he had never touched before.

We have now been 12 times and due back in September but my two sons are still not onvinced and still go to Spain or Greece. They do not know what they are missing!

since 2001 one of my mates had been trying to persuade me to go to marmaris, but another friend was saying "you wont like it there, its dirty...etc etc etc" but in 2004 i gave in, and went on holiday with my mate, didnt want to take my kids after all the horror storys i had heard, but within 2 days of being there i knew my kids would love it...now i take my kids every year, would not waste my money on going somewhere else now... i love it, my kids love it... couldnt want anymore!

I`m ashamed to admit but i took notice of other people who said Turkey and its people were horrible
In 2001 we watched a friends video of her hol to marmaris and while watching we kept saying, it looks ok, the people are up dancing and having fun and it looks clean too. So we decided to book up thinking if we didnt like it we wouldnt go back........we have been going every year since then, sometimes twice a year.
I love the place, the people, the only bad part is the travelling to and from.
We have converted quite a few people along the way too and they have all loved it.

Four years ago, we went into a travel agent and booked a holiday to Cyprus. Came home, read the reviews on the hotel and managed to cancel as it sounded awful. The agent asked if we had thought about Turkey which had never crossed our minds.

We did some research and found a cheap two week deal for Olu Deniz and have never looked back. Three trips to Olu, one to Kalkan and this year. we are heading to Turunc.

I love Turkey, the people, the scenery and especially the food!

We first went to Turkiye Sept 06.
We would go to Greece before that.
We even went back to Greece last year.(Crete)
We are going to Turkiye this year (Oct 19th).
We have flights booked for next year to Turkiye.
We now wont even look anyplace else.
When we went back to Greece last year, we thought !!!... Why the hell did we come back here?
Turkiye for us ..has yet to be explored, and We think it will take loads more visits before we say....Lets try a new country.

I think it is a combination between the people the food and the views (so much to see).

We have 3 young kids (age 2, 5, 9,) and when we asked them where they thought we should go next year they said TURKIYE
:rofl

Whenever my youngest sees a plane in the sky she allways says .....look dad that plane is going on its holidays to Turkiye :rofl ,,, she was only 8month old when she first went to turkiye and to this day she still remembers it ( she cant remember Greece last year though).

So to try and explain why we didnt ever want to go to Turkiye in the past, but we now love the place Is.......... DONT KNOW...
I think they call it the Turkiye bugg.

hi all
we first went to turkey 15 yrs ago,my hubby was definately not keen on the idea, he has such fixed ideas of what he imagines a place to be like, his comment was he was not going anywhere you had to wear a tin hat and carry an uzi, in the end he had no choice, our son was working in marmaris when he had an accident and broke his leg, so we had to go and check he was ok.

i know it sounds awful, but our son did us a big favour, once we got there and assured ourselves he was ok we actually got down to enjoying our holiday, well my hubby was well impressed, we did some great trips and made some very good friends, we have now been going once or twice a year for the last 15 years, been other places but always go back to marmaris. i have never met such nice people anywhere.

regards

i first went to turkey on a family holiday to olu deniz, a while back now! i wasn't looking forward to going because i too had fell under the impression that it was full of dirty men after any woman they could get, how wrong i was! since then ive been every year with family and for girly holidays and ive made some great friends over there. I used to think that people who went to the same place over and over were boring, but now, honestly i wouldnt want to go anywhere else! going back in october and i cant wait :D

I have lost count of the times I have been told that Turkey is dirty. Every time I have been told this without exception, has been from someone that has never been. I always ask them which resort and hotel they stayed in and then they admit they have never been.

We have been twenty three times since 1996 and are going back next Wednesday for 28 nights and have never had a major problem yet. We always go to Marmaris and have stayed in a lot of different hotels and apartments, it is only the last three years since we started using the same hotel. We have lots of friends over there that we keep in touch with all year round. We have our flights booked for May and August next year and will be booking our hotel when we go next week. At the moment we have no plans to go anywhere else, only six more sleeps and then lots of :sun2 and :cheers :D

I think we can blame Take A Break magazine for some of the bad publicity recently - they have really been laying into Turkey over the last few weeks. I don't ususlly read it but when there is a Turkey story someone always gives me a copy to read. I'm not quite sure how they can get away with some of the things they write, it just makes people who already have a bad impression think even worse.

went to Turkey in 2005 as we got a really good deal for a 2 week holiday. OH wasn't that keen on the idea but said just book it. I was worrying before we went that he wouldn't like it. But i need not have been. we had been there 2 days and he said i love it here. He like alot of people had an idea of what he thought Turkey was like. He now says that this country could learn alot from Turkey!!!!!!!!!!!

We got back and he told everyone it was the best holiday he had ever been on.

For the last 2 years we have been to Egypt (he also wasn't keen on that at first) and also love it there. I am going to Icmeler again in September on a girlie holiday with my mate Who has never been to Turkey. luckily she is so looking forward to it. My OH has said to her to, you will love it there. only 6 and abit weeks to go.

I always wanted to visit, but DH just wasn't interested. I had a friend whose opinion I respected who had been twice and said it was a lovely place (later found out that she had been to Akyaka both times though which a lot of folk don't stay at).

I had read loads of negative press about Marmaris, Open Air night clubs in Bodrum, fry-ups and roasts, drunks on the streets, turkish men playing the long-c o n on Brit women for a passport etc.

However, I persevered with DH and he agreed to go to Olu Deniz in 2006 and we all loved it. :) I went back this year, having been to three other countries in between and was ready for a 'Turkey fix' again. The beautiful weather and stunning scenery are plenty enough for me, plus a bit of history, Olu Deniz is busy enough but not too busy. I don't feel I am blinkered about the place and see it's faults as well, I wont have my next 15 holidays there the world is too big, but would be absolutely gutted if someone said I could never go back.

Same for me, I just tagged along on a friends holiday thinking"dont fancy Turkey, but at least its sunny.
Loved it sooo much went back just three weeks later!!

Side is a great choice and after going about 5 times I decided to buy an appartment there, I cant praise it enough. I let my appartment now and that pays for my fare when I go.
