not sure about buying one in turkey, i bought a good samsung 3 years ago on the plane on our way to ibiza... it cost £78, normal price would have been £119... dont know if you could pick a cheaper one up in another country!

I'm a photography enthusiast and often look at the prices of cameras and lenses whilst on holiday. In my experience Turkey is more expensive than the UK for these items.

You've probably still got time to buy one on the internet and get it delivered before you go or you can of course just hit the high street stores.

Cheers.

Thanx guys for the replies, just been to town and bought a samsung S1065 for £79.99 @ Argos 10.1 mp face recognition, image stabilizer, 2.7 inch lcd and 5x optical zoom. Tried to get onur air duty free catalogue online but had no joy (if anyone knows how to do this please let me know). Really needed a camera had no time to get one from internet and didnt know what they had to offer in duty free.

I wouldn't worry too much about the duty free option as in my experience UK airports are often overpriced for these items. I've seen memory cards on sale at £80 that I can buy on the internet for £20!!!

Remember not to be seduced by marketing hype. Pictures from a 10, 12 or 14 mega pixel compact camera are unlikely to look any better than those from a good 6 mega pixel camera and may in fact be worse. Some cameras are crippled by a poor flash, slow shooting time, bad focus, exposure issues, noisy images etc. The quality and specification of the lens etc. is very important and seldom referred to.

My preferred brands would probably be Canon and Fuji, but the best advice is to get out to some shops and try the things out yourself. There are also plenty of online reviews you can search once you have some models in mind.

Best of luck!

I bought the Samsung S1065 for my daughter. She wanted it because it was pink! I have to say I am quite impressed with it. It will photograph things in "super macro" mode that are so close that light can't get past the lens and on full zoom can pick out hairs on my other half's top lip from the other side of the room (which didn't impress her!) The only criticisms I have so far are the shutter response time is a bit slow and the internal memory is just ludicrous, what good is 16MB on a 10.2MB camera?
