I can give you a tip for the taxi to Icmeler for £83.......dont use it!! We used ICR to transfer from Dalaman to Marmaris earlier this year for £45 one way and i'm sure Icmeler will be around the same price ! Save yourself around half your money !!

I agree with the above poster. ICR do transfers at £90 return, this is for 1-4 people. They are very reputable.

As for tipping, I used to leave tips every time I had a drink, so it can become quite expensive popping in for 1 drink to various bars. Now I dont leave a tip for a drink, unless I have had quite a few and very good service, then I only leave 1-2 liras. When I have a meal, I leave a small tip. Approximately 10%. That again is if the service has been very good and I enjoyed the meal.

I used to be the worlds best tipper until someone pointed out to me how much I was leaving on tips, soon mounts up.

tips are up to you.... but please don't go overboard. It just reinforces the notion that all tourists are rich and this inflates prices. 10% would be more than reasonable IF the service was good.
The taxi driver dhould be shot. There is a board outside Dalaman airport with FIXED prices on it... I think Icmeler is 140 ytl which is about 60 quid..... ICR are a good company and do a great deal at 45 quid each way.

Tipping in bars, I don't tip if I just have a drink, after a meal I usually tip 10%.

Tipping! I need advice
Above was posted, I didnt see the original question being anything to do with Icmeleronline, So why bother posting advice on this company! Looks like another self promote campaign to me.
As long as your happy with what you paying for your service thats perfect.
Dougal, Tipping is up to yourself, If you think you have had good service etc etc then tip, If you havent then dont.

SORRY! SORRY! I got my exchange rate wrong, it is £116 return, (and pre-paid for) still dearer that ICR.
Any information on the AVLU 3 appartments?

Thanks for the above post rwb46. Cheers

Now what about information about a Turkish bath in Icmeler!

Dougal, Do not go for the cheap £10 one, Pay for the more expensive one that lasts between 2 and 3 hours yes it will cost you £25 but the benefits are much much greater and you will feel a new person all over, All Turkish baths are much the same and book them with the shops that sell trips all over Icmeler, Dont book with the reps at your hotel as they are much more expensive.

RWB46, I think your attitude is wrong. I have absolutely nothing to do with ICR, except for the fact I have used them once in the past for Transfers and Apartments. The poster asked for tips on tipping, which included an expensive taxi. Is it wrong to offer good advice on a cheaper alternative than his expensive taxi from Dalaman Airport to another HT member?

I dont know what your personal grump against ICR is, but I think you should keep your grump to yourself instead of trying to insult an innocent post which I added in order to try and help the original poster.

Please don't bicker and ruin members threads.

The original poster asked for tipping advice and not cheaper transport fares.

Glen thought he was being helpful by maybe providing a cheaper mode of transport by recommending a company, however, I think it should have been left there.

We tip 10% when we go out for dinner, but wouldn't tip for individual drinks etc.

If we have had good service all through our stay, then we would always tip the cleaning maid £10 & possibly the same to the regular bar man at our hotel, both these tips being given on our last day.

The taxi is a tricky one. We have organised a transfer directly, as we have gone DIY this year & have been quoted £50 each way. It seems a bit pointless paying £50 to the driver & then just giving him another £5....or is that just me being tight?!!

hi sbm1970,
in regards to tipping maids/bar staff do you do that in english pounds or ytl, sorry im a little confused we go to turkey first time in september and im just making sure i do things ok lol

cheers :cheers

We tip the cleaners and the taxi driver.

We also tip all barmen and waiters - even if we've only had a drink.

My husband is a HUGE tipper as he has worked in a job where he relied on his tips and knows how much they mean. He also has a habit of giving the biggest tips at the beginning of the holiday to cleaners and the hotel staff with the promise of more at the end of the week, as you are more likely to get great service for the rest of your holiday. ;)

Hi gould,

We have always tipped in YTL, as we have always used this currency on holiday in the past. However, I'm sure the locals would be happy with either YTL or £.
Reply
You are better to tip in ytl as the turks have a bit of a job changing pound coins ,been asked plenty of times if i would change pound coins into ytl or english notes.

We don't usually tip if it is just one drink, if we have a snack or a couple of drinks we round it up and for a meal, we normally leave about 10%. We round up taxi fairs and usually leave about £10 in Turkish lira for the cleaning staff at the apartment.

Wages are very low in Turkey and staff rely on tips to boost their wages. My husband worked in Turkey for many years and if he hadn't got tips we would have found it hard to live on his wage alone. So if you do have a good meal and enjoy good service it is always nice to leave a tip.

tips are totally up to you!!
depends how happy you are with the service and price and stuff.
