Did you come up for breath during that!!!
From the post that i have read about the price increases i don't think i have seen anyone complain about the weather, people, or how friendly they are.
Loads of people on here are arguing over the cost of an ENGLISH breakfast in Turkey, i can't get my head round that one, but each to their own, yes you can get meals for £6.99 that are 4 or 5 courses but in my experience the food was of poor quality so i voted with my feet and went elsewhere. The places we ended up eating were more expensive but the food, service and entertainment was fantastic, as i have said on here already before we went away i came on here asking people who had already been how much money did they think i would need, i was given various amounts from £500-£1800 for a family of four going for 2 weeks, we spent just under £2000, how £500 was going to be any good to me i don't know.
Turkey has increased it's prices that is a fact, i loved it out there but i just hope that they don't drive to many people away with these increases.
Stew
the subject was about price increases so surely this is relevent !!!
ive been going to turkey for over 26 years and up to 5 times a year all year round so i do see the prices in summer & winter etc and have family there, and go to different resorts and was pointing out turgutreis is 1 of the most expensive areas of turkey ive been too !!!!!
At the end of the day i think we are all in agreement that Turkey has increased it's prices, which will put a lot of people off going there, surely??
Like other resorts visited by the British holidaymaker there is no doubt that the prices in Turkey have risen. My view is that it's not just down to greed but also taxes being imposed on those who provide for us on holiday. I think it would be unreasonable to expect Turkey to remain so cheap and I for one (back three weeks now) did not find it that expensive and was more than happy to pay for what was served to me or what I had to drink.
In closing, there is no doubt price increases will put certain people off going to Turkey, equally many will be happy to pay the going rate.
Wilson
Well put Wilson, i was a little surprised at the prices after being told that Turkey was cheap, but i enjoyed the food, culture, people & weather.I was happy to pay for what i had and i for one will be back next year.
Fuel affects everything as delivery costs will go up and therefore restaurants and bars have no alternative but to put their prices up or lose out.
As for english breakfasts, it seems to me they might be loss leaders? No profit or minus profit on the basis that you might be buying drinks as well and return for evening meals which they can price more sensibly?
How would people feel if resorts upped the prices of these imported, processed foods so they could level the prices out a bit? I personally don't go to Turkey or any other holiday resort to eat full english breakfasts, but it seems that many people are very put out if this kind of food isn't available.
Also, many people on here might be under the impression that it is 'cheap' because of previous threads where people ask how much spending money to take. Some people were shot down with comments such as 'how on earth can you spend that much?'.
First i would like to point out that when i started this thread it was never my intention to upset anyone on here all i was trying to say was that if the bar owners and resturaunt owners continue to hike there prices i.e efes between 2.5ytl and 6ytl (as people have posted on this thread) somebody is making a huge profit at the upper end of the scale. I fully understand about the taxes they have to pay but so have the guys selling at 2.5 ytl.
and as for atmosphere and entertainment well you make that not just the bar etc..
i have eaten in resturaunts in turkey and paid what i consider to be a lot per head £30 and had a very nice meal but poor atmosphere and i`ve also eaten in resturaunts and paid £10 per head inc drinks and had a fantastic meal and the atmosphere was just great. It is like anything in life and holidays are what you make of them.
Sorry i digress.
You take the total cost of a 2 week holiday for 2 going b\b in turkey 2\3 star hotel £1200 inc insurance. Spending money another £1500-£2000.
now if i booked 4\5 star a\i £1500-£2000 taking into consideration i book my holiday 1 year in advance so get a good discount. it does not take a genius to work out that the a\i i could save some money if i don`t go off the gulag.
I then miss meeting the turks in their shops and market stalls etc. i get to eat burgers and rubbish for 2 weeks and not genuine turkish meals ( which i love).
and may as well have a holiday in butlins but without the weather.
I Understand some people saying that it`s all down to choice and some would rather pay more for a better atmosphere but those are the people who are helping the bar owners etc to keep hikeing the prices. Just remember 99% of the people who use this forum regularly do so because this country and it`s people have made a huge impact on us in varying ways, and it`s because of this that i feel so strongley. i do not want to have to forgo my annual holiday to turkey because i cannot afford it.

its ok paying 6/7quid for a 5 course meal but what if you dont like the food or the actual restaurant .Prices have gone up a lot we spent around £200/300 more than last year for our stay and did more or less the same things even ate at the kebab shop once or twice.Yes you can get a brekky for £2 but as a non drinker i get stung badly for soft drinks everywhere and obviously so do the kids,a friend told us they dont make much money on beer but a large mark up on coke /sprite etc .I am going back in 2 weeks butthis time we are prepared to eat frugally as we cant afford to eat out in restaurants every night any more, its no wonder some people are going half board and ai instead of sc I dont blame them, but its not my sort of holiday to do that. Its a shame but the prices are increasing every year and if they are not careful they will price themselves too high and out of the market and even us diehard Turkefiles will move on
The reason I reply to this is that this year 2 weeks in a caravan was £1200 for the van alone and never mind driving from the Uk down there, thats another £500-600 the way fuel has gone up, then you have to buy and cook all your food, another £500 for a fortnight then spending money, buying a beer in the bar on site was 5.5 euros last year, dread to think what it would be like this year
This year a 2 week stay at the Green Nature AI with 2 rooms flights and all in £2700 what a bargain, we will of course be going out for some meals and shopping, but my point is Turkey is still a lot cheaper than most places in europe, and long may that continue.
For us Turkey is the new France
As we can also see from here though, there are folk who are making their first trips to Turkey this year, and whilst not finding it necessarily "cheap" (and it isn't) saying they enjoyed it so much they will return.
I don't think people should be encouraged to holiday in Turkey because its cheap, because I don't think it is anymore. Value for money may be a more valid point to discuss?
I also think there are regular Turkey visitors who have voted with their wallets, and gone elsewhere. But still many return.
One other thing though - Turkish bar/restaurant owners etc, generally do not believe that more hassle/higher prices than along the road make any difference to the amount of customers/money coming through their doors. It doesn't matter how many times you tell them hassle is offputting/bringing down their prices a little will make them more money, they won't have it .

this year , 3 of us went and we still spent £100 a day on food and drink.......
yes, we could have cut down, or found somewhere cheaper, but we didnt want to.
we shall go back next year, but that will be the last time for us, as some things are now more expensive than at home....
with having children, it may be that we have to do all inclusive somehwere, as it will work out cheaper for a good all inc, than paying self catering and then food costs on top.....
The best part of my holiday is finding somewhere different to eat each night and enjoying the local food but after overspending this year by around £200 I think we will have to considerer A/I next for next year.
After looking at flight prices for next year (around £1400 for 5 flights end of July09) and with the cost of drinks, this is where we spent most of our money, we are seriously considering A/I next year. A lot of places are charging 6TYL for a large soft drink (1TYL + 45p at 2.25 to £1) thats £2.70 a drink. Times this by around 8 drinks each a day and that is 48 TYL (£21) each a day working out to around £100 a day on drinks alone . We ended up getting large bottles of pop from the Tansas and drinking these throughout the day when staying around our apartment pool to save on some money.
I did think that it was quiet this year but I think that it will just get quieter as more and more people will come the same conclusion as us, especially if you have children, and go A/I as it appears better value for money. Di.
Its the cost of soft drinks that would be a killer for us as we dont drink much alcohol and you cant cut back on soft drinks/water because of the heat. 8 drinks for four of us would cost us 84 pounds a day, 1166 pounds would certainly make a bit of a dent in a fortnights AI costs.
How much is water in a supermarket? Our apartments are all on ground floor level by the pool, so would be easy for us to keep popping back for water during the day.
Not sure of the exact price, but you can get the big five litre ones, I am sure they would be dirt cheap, you could decant into smaller bottles and keep in your apartment fridge. That's what we have always done when on SC holidays in the Algarve, otherwise you are forever buying the stuff. Waters not really the problem its Cokes, 7Ups, fresh orange juice etc but if you dont like that kind of thing you will be fine.

The prices have really gone up this year, I found scotch whisky, smirnoff vodka etc very expensive over £4 for a tiny measure. Beer prices werent bad and we could still get a set meal with free drink for 19 lira, this was in nostalji just before taj mahal in marmaris, opposite hotel guldal. I know the restaurants on beachfront and marina would be more expensive but you don't have to eat in them. We would never go all inclusive as we wouldn't like to sit in a hotel for 2 weeks, but we are considering going for 1 week next year instead of 2. Having spoken to people who have been to majorca and benidorm, spain is far more expensive than turkey and the resorts are very quiet.
We have just returned from Icmeler and found a big difference to the prices since we last went in 06. One of the biggest increases seems to be soft drinks. For a can of drink we were paying in the apartments we were staying in - the equivalent of almost £2, but elsewhere still more expensive than the UK, even the local supermarkets. We took a couple of bottles of squash as they dont seem to do it over there . Food was more expensive but still good value for the quality you get. For a family of 4 we were spending around 80-100 lira for a meal (no starters or desserts except for the bread) but probably a couple of drinks each. One thing we did find disappointing was that you cant get the bargains you used to when shopping. Handbags are not as cheap any more, they think that just because they have put a fake lable on a bag you will be prepared to pay the price you would pay over here for a inferior quality bag. My daughter paid £12 for a tiny (plastic) shoulder bag with D&G on and yes we did barter a third off. You can still get your 3 for a tenner bags but they arent up to much and also the 5 for a tenner t shirts in the markets but a couple of times we caught them putting something else in our bag which wasnt what we wanted. Luckily we got wise to this and opened the bag before walking away. I know everything has gone up but an awful lot of Turkish people are driving around in new cars (our apatment owner had a very nice new shiny VW people carrier) and we cant help thinking that a lot of it is them charging as much as they think they can get away with. Yes the friendliness is still there (just) but we also had a few times when we were given the charm then conned into spending money on something that wasnt good. Im not sure we are going to return next year as its lost its charm for us and we heard this from quite a lot of other regulars to Turkey too.. A real shame....
try Calis Beach meals around 10-18 TLR effes 2-3.5 tTLRgood hotels on B/B from £8 per room per night .
Yes prices do up but this area is value for money
