Hello,
We are a 30 year old couple looking at going to turkey at the end of august 2008, as where new to the place where leaning towards marmaris or either gumbet any advice on the best resort would be great, also advice on tidy hotels would be great because most of the reviews we have looked at seem to be so up and down, and is it worth paying the extra £100 for a all inclusive or go self catering?
Thanks
Firstly welcome to the forums ! No matter where you choose in Turkey you will have a great time. We prefer Marmaris and go there every year. We do self catering (Club Turquoise) and find this suits our holiday needs best. Lots of people prefer the Hotels either half board or the increasingly popular AI. Given our knowledge of Marmaris gained over the last nine years or so I for one would never go AI but I do understand why it suits some others. Given your age my recommendation would be to get a nice apartment and come and go as you please. Eat where you want when you want, that sort of thing and if you have a late night you can just have a really long lie ! As I say everyone has their favourate place on here and will give great arguments for other resorts so take your time (not long until end of Agust though) and pick what/where you think will suit what you want from a resort.

Welcome!
Wilson knows his stuff.... he's a great guy and great for his Turkey info! (thanks wilson )
We have been to Marmaris 4 times now and are going back in September (5wks tomorrow not that I'm counting!!!).
We love it there, its fab and there is so much choice of things to do weither you want a quiet night in a local restaurant overlooking the sea or a wild night on the tiles there's loads to do.
I am 31 so a similar age and we can't recommend it enough! We stay at Club Alize, which has gone up a lot since we first went but we feel it's worth the extra as we like it so much (mainly for the kids pool and the kids club) but it's great for famillies or cuples alike. The new thomson hotel Aida has got some great reviews so far, it only opened in May so it will be all nice and new. It had some good deals when it first opened.
Wherever you go you will have a fab time with al the great turkey people, they are so friendly and welcoming. We have met some great friends over there!
Love Nikki xx
Hi thanks for the replys so far thats a real help and keepem coming, been on here hours looking at hotels ect.
Don't know the Irmak but I see they are 400 mts from Migros (not sure which way though ..) so you are in not a bad location. At the price you were quoted I'd jump at it.
sorry i should have put 220 per person so 440 in all
Hi, I fell in love with Side, Antalya. Its a great mix of old and new, the Amphitheatre and ruins, the brilliant harbour and you can choose to have an evening people watching sitting outside restaurant or dancing all night at one of the livelier bars. In August its good to head for the cooling waterfalls. The main thing to remember in any part of Turkey is to haggle! they expect you to and think your a fool if you dont, you should get between 25-50% of most things like bags, shoes, clothes even some of the trips you can get cheaper, its all done in good faith and adds to the fun of the holiday. I hope you really enjoy it.
I lived in Gumbet and have only visited Marmaris once for a short time so maybe I am a bit biased but I much prefer Gumbet and Bodrum.
I wouldn't personally recommend AI as Turkey is such a great place to go out and about it seems a shame to be tied to the hotel. You can find very resonable and good food everywhere and it is fun to go out and try new places. There are some lovely apartments in Gumbet some of my recommendations are: Queens Resort, Ozukara I or II, Siesta Beach, Jasmin Beach, Tropicana Beach but there are loads more there too.
It is easy to get into Bodrum by dolmus, it takes about 20 minues and there are great shops, bars, restaurants plus a weekly market and places of interest if you facny a bit of culture. From there you can also take a dolmus to numerous places around the peninsular, small resorts, lovely beaches, fishing villages etc.
Wherever you go in Turkey though I am sure you have a good time, it is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly. Just ask if you want to know anything else.

Hi Mesiw, For first timers such as yourselves I would recommend Icmeler which is just outside Marmaris also Hisaronu and Kalkan.
good luck
For the last two years (and in 4 weeks time) we have been to Fethiye (the Club Letoonia resort). We much prefer this area. Its close to Hisanaru and Olu Deniz and we love the all inclusive resort. Its all down to personal tastes though. We've never had a bad holiday in Turkey.
If you want night life get yourselves to Gumbet, Marmaris, Hisanaru (although this is not near the beach, you'd have to get the Dolmus). If you want it slightly quieter head to some of the other places people have recommended
which are in order of preferance we think but dont know much
1- ozhan app 2- irmak app 3- inaan app 4- sayer app,
there all under 250 each for week but does any1 know or can give advice on best one? location pool entertainment ect.
thanks and looking to book asap
well i really dont know what to do or book
Go with your initial thoughts ... Irmak
the aslarlik beach hotel in gumbet is lovely the views are excellent the food the same it was really a good hotel overall .
My parents stayed at the Irmak in June and thought it was great for the price they paid, they ended up in a huge apartment with a bathroom each. They said it is in a really good location, close to everything but far enough away from the noise when you want some sleep!
What do people usualy do in turkey to get to and from hotel and what are the prices if anyone knows?
did have to catch a taxi once in a resort in spain for same reason and it cost me around £20
Thanks for any help and kind regards
Have a look at Icmeleronline assuming you are going to Marmaris, they do transfers.
Thanks for the help so far, i cant believe it though, was going to book tonight but the prices have risen by £50 each since last night and there was me thinking the later you book the more cheaper it gets
The hotel you choose will do transfers remember the further you go the more expensive, enjoy.
