I ended up on the new section of AP7 heading back to Alicante airport.Took the slip road off after the tolls, took the left lane signposted for airport ,but I am sure I took a wrong turn after this. I ended up heading away from the airport on what I call the old dual carriage way, the carriage way that skirts Alicante with the tunnels.I remember there was a fork in the road somewhere after the slip road from the tolls. Should I have gone right instead of left.
Ive tried google earth but its not up to date.

pipefitter,u should have took the right hand slip.its a bit missleading, the way u went is longer and the tolls dearer,i done the same thing 1st time whwn the new ap7 went in,if u take the right hand slip your fine

It's confusing because if you look on a map the new ring road looks like it should be the right fork. However, if you take the right fork it loops back across towards Alicante a bit further down and you then get back onto the "old road". I think they deliberately send people down the new (longer and tolled) road to get traffic off the old road. I haven't used the new ring road, for all I know it might be quicker, especially at peak hours, because of lighter traffic? It certainly doesn't look likely though, the distance out that it takes you. It might be the best way to get to Murcia, but it sure doesn't look the quickest way to the airport!

The new road isn't having the desired effect according to the traffic department. It was hoped to take around 30000 cars a day off the other road but in reality it is only handling 10000 a day.
Problem is, although the road is quieter there isn't much time saved by using the new road unless you are connecting to the Madrid motorway, and the toll is about €2.50 more than the original motorway.

It actually had to pay 6.70 for that section at the toll from Benidorm Levante.

Last few times I have been to the airport I have used the N332, it seemed to me to be quicker than the motorway

We always used the N332 now as well. It is definitely quicker than the toll road and it's FREE.
