How many times have we been warned to watch our bags!!?? I thought I was pretty bag concious but last week,concentration must have slipped!!!As we have no market in Nerja at present,my friend and I went to Torrox to visit the market there .After shopping,we went to a beach bar and were horrified to find that both our bags had been slashed with a knife!! My bag is an "organiser"bag with lots of pockets(my friend has one identical).I have great problems locating my purse,phone etc!! Its obvious the thief had the same problem!
!Nothing had gone Thank Goodness!My friend had bought some shorts which were in her bag,Apart from ripping these,nothing was gone from hers either. The lady in the police tent on the beach suggested we reported to the Guardia Civil in the village.As this is a car ride away I wondered how many tourists would actually make the journey? Also a bit of Spanish is required to negotiate yourself round the police station.When we got there, there were others with ripped bags and stolen wallets(all Spanish).I explained that I just wanted to report it not make a statement etc.The previous lady had been three quarters of an hour doing hers!!
The police man told me that this happens every monday and even though they have plain clothes policemen patrolling the market,there simply isnt enough of them.Also,as in the UK,robbery is not a priority!!
It was a bit scary to think that we were in such close proximity to a very sharp knife! A lesson learned!!

ps We think it happened near the make up and toiletries stall.We were both trying perfumes and generally studying the make up for sale etc.Takes a lot of concentration!! !!
