Hi al
i am planing to book a holiday at nama bay for September next year, the holiday company i want to book with do not provide free hotel transfers to book a taxi through them will cost £37 per person.
Now this sounds a bit steep to me, i am wondering how much i should expect to pay if i just get one when i arrive and also will it be easy to get a taxi at the airport
regards
Mel
I can't tell you a definate price, as I can't remember. Hubby and I went to egypt 3 years ago, there were loads of taxis at the airport. All I remember is the rickety old blue taxis, that had no windows in them (that was the aircon)!!! I do remember thinking though that we were paying around £5, for a journey that would cost £15 in this country. You must haggle and haggle with them. Never ever take the first few prices they give you. Always ensure you know the fair before you get in. Obviously things may have changed a bit by now.
thanks i don't mind haggling become quite an expert after holidayng in Turkey and Thailand
I contacted the Maritim Jolie Ville Casino in Naama Bay recently to ask them how much I should expect to pay for a cab from the airport. They said it should be around 50 Egyptian pounds but to avoid any problems the hotel could arrange transport for 85 Egyptian pounds each way. Hope this gives you some idea about costs and suggest you contact your hotel direct to ask about their transfers. Even if the hotel 'limousine' (I use this term lightly as their limos are not of the stretch variety just an ordinary car in good conditon) is more expensive than a standard blue and white taxi it would work out so much cheaper that the operator transfer.
am i right in thinking thats about £5.00 stirling ?
Yup, it should be approx £5 for the blue white cars (though they will probably try to charge you considerably more!) and £8.50 for the hotel limousine. If you are staying in a hotel nearer the airport they might charge even less as the Jolie Ville is in Naama Bay. The holiday company is definately charging too much but I know that in the past I have paid far more for operator transfers than necessary purely for convenience sake.
We did an independent trip to Egypt last year from our home in Cyprus and arrived in Aswan going up for midnight. We didn't really want the hassle of fighting over taxi prices at that time of night so I searched around for private transfer prices.
We arranged a mini-bus transfer from the airport to our hotel in Aswan (about 20 to 30 mins by road) and the best price I found was through the Transfer option on HotelClub.com (if I recall, the service is supplied by Octopus). The cost of the mini-bus was a fixed price - a little less than £10Gbp. There were 4 of us! Just checked there now and prices for private transfer from SSH into Sharm resorts is £22.50 for the mini-bus, not per person.
However, I did check a number of other transfer sites such as Resort Hopper and Flightline and they were ridiculously expensive by comparison.
easyJet offer flight transfers to Naama Bay starting at £8.40 pp single journe and £13.20 return on a shuttle transfer of around 40 minutes and £30pp or £56pp for a private taxi (about 10 minutes shorter transfer time). So, it gives you a bit of an idea....
