Hi, me and my parter are vistiting malta again this year, but now its changed to euro we are unsure of the avarge price for simple things such as meals, drinks and bus passes.. I normaly go every year.. due to it been cheap and value for money! But since the euro, all i've heard .. is that the price's have really shot up on everything.. is this true?
Could anyone please tell me now much the following are??
1) bottle of wine OR cocktail?
2) a 3 course meal or the avarge price for a decent dish?
3) 7 day bus pass?
4) cigs
Thank you!
there has been very little change in prices of the items you mention - however, in £, prices are up 20% due to weakness of £
No idea how this compared to pre Euro, but if France is anything to go by when they changed over then it is probably more expensive as Gozomark said.
as per my earlier reply "there has been very little change in prices of the items you mention"
there is actually no evidence of any wholesale increase in prices in any country due to a change to the €. I'm no apologist for the € - as an economist, my view is that the main benefits of the € in the short and medium term are political not economic, and economically are mixed - but one thing the € hasn't done is lead to significantly higher prices - most countries inflation rates rose by 0.2-0.3% immediately, which soon disappeared due to greater price transparency
For example, in 2007 : Lm2 = £3.23 (62c/£1) .
As the lira was fixed against the Euro, in 2008 Lm2 = €4.66 = £3.85. Approx 20% increase.
Basically I am saying a bottle of wine for Lm2 is now €4.66, but still the same price in Malta. But because of the exchange rate it will seem more to British tourists!
* Lm0.4293 = €1 / €1.21 = £1
