Hi, Sorry I don't have any info on your hotel for you but I was windering whether you could give me some info on Skopelos. Having watched Mama Mia last night and reading that it was filmed on Skopelos I'm doing a bit of research. It looked beautiful. We've been to a number of Greek islands and are always looking for new places. Since you've been before I wonder if you can tell me a bit about the island - places to stay- which airports fly there-any companies do package deals- which island group is it, size of island etc

Skopelos is a wonderful island and is very laid back. In fact it is VERY Greek! The islanders were offered an airport but refused it as they didn't want to become like Skiathos!
To get to Skopelos you have to fly to Skiathos and then get the ferry or flying dolphin to skopelos. There are 2 ports on skopelos, Skopelos town which both the ferry and flying dolphin stop at, and Loutraki where the flying dolphin also stops at. Loutraki is at the north of the island. Skopelos is a very quiet island and Skopelos town (also known as hora ) is the busiest place on the island.....although don't take this literally! There is one disco (very low key!) a jazz club on the harbour front which is excellent even though i am not a jazz fan!, a piano bar which is excellent and numerous restaurants which are superb. Finikas and Alexanders are among my favourites although there are many more.
Skopelos is a very mountanous island but is very easy to explore both on foot and by car. You do not need a jeep to access the island although to see the best of the island i suggest you hire a car for at least three days. The bus service which runs from Skopelos town to Glosssa and Loutraki in the north is very good but stops running at about 6pm. Taxis are a rare sight affter midnight unless you pre book!
For accommodation, Skopelos town offers the biggest choice. There is a lot of accomodation on the road between Skopelos town and Stafylos where you will also find a good range of accomodation. Panoramos also has a decent range of accomodation.

Hi John,
that's excellent detailed info you've posted. I'm really liking the sound of it. We've already got next summer's holiday booked but we like to look ahead and we're now researching for 2010 I think Skopelos is a strong possibility. How long is the ferry transfer and would we have to book this separately or is it included in a package deal by the tour op. Also, what TO's go here, if any?

The crossing can take between 45 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes depending on wether you go by flying dolphin or the cateraman..and also your final destination (Loutraki or Skopelos town) AND the route it takes! If it goes directly to Skopelos town and it is the flying dolphin it should take about 45 minutes.
The cost of the transfer will be included in your holiday price if you book through a tour operator. We last travelled over to Skopelos on a day trip on the flying dolphin in 2004 and the return trip (if i remember) cost 17 euros.
There will no doubt be a number of smaller operators going to Skopelos but i know Olympic and i think Manos do packages to Skopelos.
