Just back from Marmaris this morning and I had a super time. The weather was hot and the Turkish were very friendly. We stayed at the George and Dragon Apartments. Super place to stay, can't recommend it enough. I was going to write a report but it isn't listed on this site.
I thought the resort was great. I did find the prices for drinks abit ott though. There are cheaper bars in the side streets ( 2 effes for 6 lira as compared to 1 for 5 lira or 6 lira on beachfront barstreet or cocktails 2 for 10lira beach front or 1 for 10lira bar street) but we are a young couple who want to enjoy the nightlife down the beach front and bar street. Marmaris from a nightlife point of view was more expensive than Rhodes last year . Don't get me wrong though, we had a super time and took full advantage of free shots and happy hours . ANYWAY regardless we had a ball and you get used to the prices and drink effes instead of cola as its cheaper lol .
I thought the food was amazing and good value for money. The food quality and price made up for the expensive drinks I think. I never had a bad meal out there.
SO in conclusion I had a super time but if I go to Turkey again then its going to be AI for me because of the drinks situation.
Oh Ibrox bar just behind cheers accepts scottish notes for exchnaging money so did our apartments and I heard from other fellow scots that there were being able to exchange it fine in town. Just thought I would let you know as I was told to take English notes with me.
You have always been able to change scottish notes anywhere greenshoes ,but never once in all my travels have i been offered the same rate as english notes .What sort of exchange rate did you get for your money .
the rate was 2.1 to 2.068 over there from day to day. Got the same rate for scottish notes as we did for english notes as we took both out. Interesting to point out that on Sunday town was at 2.068 and the Ibrox bar was the best we found at 2.1. I didnt realise we could use any scottish notes so it was a nice surprise
If you do go AI bear in mind that you may not get the known brands of drinks. Someone I spoke to earlier in the year who went AI said the beer was a cheap kind that they hadn't heard of, the spirits were all local, and the wine of the cheapest variety! Of course that may not be true in all AI hotels, but if it bothers you its probably worth checking beforehand.
prices. You get used to them after a while lol
Glad you had a good time Greeny
I really had a super time. Marmaris gets a big thumbs up from me
a week tomorrow for us
Great wee report, thanks for taking the time to post. I'm sure if you do a bit on your apartments one of the Mods will explain how to get it on.
