November to March/April would be the best time. If you want to go in the summer months then Koh Samui is good. :)

where ever you go make sure you have a few days in Bangkok- great at any time of the year :D

Cool Season : (late October to end of February). average temperature 21C and much cooler at night. The coldest months are December and January.

Hot Season : (early March to end of May) Average temperature 29.9C. Thehottest month is April.

April is the best time to go to experience the Thai New Year (or otherwise known as the Water Festival).

April is very hot .... Son Kran (spelling?) I would imagine is a pain in the butt! For this reason I am visiting Chiang Mai in early April rather than in the middle of April. My Son who lives in Chiang Mai tells me you cannot go anywhere without getting soaked. No I am not being a spoil sport as I imagine it can be good fun, but not constantly. Sorry for going slighty off topic!

I think Jan / Feb are probably better months than April.

April is getting to be rather hot and humid. Beware, however that weather does vary depending on where you are going.

Have a look at http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/48456.html (there is historical wdata available by week or month) for the part of Thailand that you wish to visit.

Cheers and enjoy

November is the best time for the climate, and is the cheapest time.

I like going early May / late October when there are fewer tourists, and hotels are half the price, and you're minimising risk of continued rain (considering it is 'rainy' season!).

If you went for a week say 23-30 October, you would in most cases pay 50% for the hotel of travelling 1 week later. But yet the weather is not going to switch from monsoon to dry and lovely accordingly!

to be honest I dont look at Thailand when we go on holiday in October-its just not the ideal time. Hopefully someone who has holidayed then can give some help

Hi tracy99,

We would normally avoid Thailand in October - Bali and perhaps Zanzibar are good destinations if you want longish haul from UK. (The Canary Islands take some beating for short haul!)

This year, however, we will risk the wrath of the rain God and will be trying Hua Hin from the end of September until a couple of weeks int October (basically because we couldn't get the hotel that we wanted in Bali!).

In General terms, the North of Thailand becomes drier first. Last year we were in Chiang Mai (not exactly a beach resort) and the north of Thailand /Laos in November. We had little rain (a minor light shower or perhaps two) but I am not sure that, even that far North, is a good October destination.

Have a look at the wunderground link (about 5 posts above) for any Thai resorts that you may consider - you will get a good indication, based upon weather history, from there.

I will, undoubtedly, post on this board about Hua Hin in October, when we return. :think Hope that it will be positive!! :think

I am a bit gutted reading weather reports above. I am going to Koh Samui 11th october for 9 nights then Bangkok for 3 nights.
I was hoping to sunbathe and swim every day but it seems it is likely to be continuously raining.
I was all set for booking Mauritius but the travel agent said it wasnt very hot in October but Thailand had fantastic weather all year round.
Does anyone know if there is much to do in KS when it is raining? I do not fancy spending all the time in the hotel room.
Someone please cheer me up and tell me I have booked the right place.

Kazzalisa,

Koh Samui had abnormally bad weather for parts of November last year, but typically October is fine (although it is 'low season') - fine meaning you'll have a great time.

You'll have some rain, and lots and lots and lots of dry weather. And sun.

I'm sure.

I was in Samui 2 years ago end of October, and had 1 x 20 minute shower in 3 days I was there.

Thanks Sam that has cheered me up no end. Looking forward to it again now.

almost certainly rain every day but usually late afternoon or early evening. It won't get in the way of sunbathing. :)
