Hi Fiona ,
I do think it is a lot but with Hayes and Jarvis, but I cannot get better unless I travel with Qatar, yes they are cheaper but there is a 7 hour wait in Doha, don't fancy that !!
Maybe I will go somewhere else
That sounds really expensive- we paid nothing like that last year and are not paying that for next year in Singapore and Vietnam
Thanks Calhorn I will look into it
Hi there, I phoned Travelbag today , I am looking at £2652 from manchester 13 nights at the Griya Santrian with Singapore Airlines , so definitely cheaper than Hayes and Jarvis , still unsure what to do
well- I did my summer holiday with them Don't stay in Sanur for 13 nights. They can get you whichever hotel you want and we picked the Komaneka in Ubud and they got it for us. Don't miss out on Ubud.
I will definitely include Ubud if I do decide to go there Fiona , it looks so lovely, just thought if I got the best price possible for the beach stay then I can 'tweak' it later , still not sure where to go though , I think I am going crazy
Air Asia were ok, we booked a Jak-Bali flight for about 3 hours after our flight was due to land with Emirates and it was on time and fine, only about a third full.
For the homewardbound leg though, I would really reccomend you give PLENTY of time if you are connecting to an international flight. We actually booked the last flight back to Jakarta on the night before the Emirates flight, and stopped over in the Sheraton Bandera near to the airport. Even then, the flight was reschduled back 2 hours back after we had booked, and we had a further 3 hour delay on the night of the flight, so you can see why you need to be cautious.
However despite this, for the money the flights were great, and if you build in an overnight on your return leg, you should be fine.
Also, Emirates are well worth looking into as they were excellent, and fly from a number of regional UK airports at reasonable prices, which lets you avoid Heathrow.
You must let us know how you got on in Bali
How did you find navigating Jakarta Airport & reaching the Sheraton Bandara? My dads lived in Jakarta for year, so i'm well used to it, but i'm wary of recommending people fly to Bali that way as the experience (especially for transit) is reputed to be difficult for first timers (although I actually love the airport and have had no problems bar needing a couple of well directed bribes!!!).
If people are confident of going via Jakarta to Bali they could save a fortune as it opens up KLM, Emirates, Etihad, Gulf, Lufthansa and a whole host of other airlines which can be a lot cheaper than Bali flights.
To be honest, Jakarta wasn't too bad, you have to be prepared for the inevitable scrum of taxi drivers who won't take no for an answer, but as long as you are firm you will be ok.
For anyone planning in using this route into Bali, you do not need a taxi in between the international terminal and the domestic terminal, there is a free bus service to take you there.
Also, if you are stopping at a hotel like the Sheraton, they will provide a courtesy service to and from the airport.
I will say that the Domestic Departures isn't the best, and if you have a long layover it may be better stopping in the international as long as you can.....
However, I would have no qualms again about going through there, and the International Departure area was actually quite pleasant...
Hope this reassures a few people, as you can get some decent prices into Jakarta, and I think our Air Asia flights only cost us approx £40 each return....
My problem now is that we have a health problem in the family at the moment so I am holding back for a little while before I book anything, just incase.
good prices Shirley. I hope things are ok for you
