My hubby went diving in Goa last year and said he would NEVER ever dive in Goa again he was quite concerned with the safety. He said the boat was no more than a small fishing boat they got into the boat via a slimy cobbled road into the sea in which 1 lady fell :yikes. When they got to the dive site hubby was instructed to swim behind the instruction, who was holding onto another diver who didnt have enough weights on him to ascend without the instructor pulling him. My hubby said that if it hadnt been for the yellow illuminious flippers the fellow diver was wearing he would have been totally lost, he said it was very difficult trying to keep up with the instructor and fellow diver. Visibility was terrible after 10 mins my husband decided he would rather take his chance above the water only to get to the surface and find the instructor there. No one can predict what the weather is going to be like but my hubby asked before they left diving shop what the visibility would be like and what they were likely to see, the instruction said very good.
My hubby is and always has been a natural in water (as stated by other diving instructors in other countries) although its only 4 years since he got his open water he has managed to dive Sharm x2, Vietnam, Bali and several med coutries.
When they arrived back at the dive shop in Baga my husband demanded a refund - as did the other diver (the one without correct weights) which they were both given. The other what was on the same trip couldnt get out of van/bus quick enough and made a rapid escape down the road.
I had done lots of research and even asked the same question on here regarding how safe/good etc and according to PADI this dive school/shop are members so what else can one do
This may have been a ''one off'' but one thing for sure is that anyone who asks my hubby he tells them straight that he didnt at anytime feel safe, be it walking from the jetty, on the rickety boat or during the 10 minute dive.
Just thought I would share the experience and you can then make up your own minds.
Regards
Jules
