Hi all
I have been doing some research into my February city break and would welcome any imput on the above destinations .
We are looking to go for 3 nights , happy with cold/snow and are looking for somewhere with lots of charm and history . Not really into museums or churches but do enjoy walking and exploring castles/fortifications that type of thing with nice eating and drinking inbetween and happy to do day trips out .
Can find plenty on HT about Budapest and some on Talinn but not about Bratislava or brno which maybe a possibility to stay in either with a daytrip to the other .
Really do like this part of the world in the winter and have previously enjoyed trips to prague/krakow and salzburg at this time of the year. any suggestions would be appreciated

I had a three day break in this area in April 07 and really enjoyed it. Briefly, we stayed in Bratislava and on day one visited Vienna by train (though you can go by boat along the Danube), day two we drove into Hungary visiting Moson Magyarovar and then on to Gyor, day three we drove to Brno. I'd certainly go back and would stay in Bratislava again. Four Countries and (i think) four currencies in three days, food and drink were cheap, very enjoyable short break.
Thanks for that Andy . will certainly look at covering more than one destination although having only 3 days would like to base ourselves in one of these destinations and visit another as a day trip
if it comes down to a choice between Bratislava and Brno then I would definitely recommend staying in Bratislava and maybe visiting Brno as the former has a nice old town and is on the Danube. I can remember walking around some high city walls in Brno which gave some good views, especially of the Tesco store. I didn't dislike the place, but walking along the pedestrianised main shopping street I felt it wasn't too dissimalar to walking down the Headrow in Leeds. I've been to Krakow, if it's something similar that you're looking for you may be disappointed with Brno.
Whatever you choose, have a nice break.

Its difficult as after visiting krakow and prague we are looking for something with a similar feel but other than budapest which seems to get mixed reviews I dont think we will find anything quite the same . To be honest we loved the feel of Krakow but there wasnt much there other than churches to see within the town itself. It was the trips to auchswitz and the salt mines and of course the lovely people that made that weekend .
Talinn is still in the running as a day trip to riga is a possibility from there as well.
thanks for all your help
