For white sands and clear blue waters it has to be Mexico - Cancun. all hotels are on the beach. Cancun is very expensive if you went self catering, but most hotels are all inclusive so no need to go out, but you have to at least go out once or twice as it is such a brilliant and very safe. If you did want to go out and wanted to vist a great restaurant - go to Rios (downtown), been so many places on holiday, and this place sticks in my mind as exceptional.

Depends what else you want when you get there. St Lucia, Cuba, Antigua, Dom Rep, Jamaica, Barbados to name but a few all have excellent beaches and some nice hotels. Each of the Caribbean islands have something different to offer in terms of culture, scenery and activities.

The Arena Gorda Beach in Bavaro, Punta Cana. Is just stunning. We stayed in Riu Bambu and the beach in front of this hotel was just fabulous. Nice and deep with loads of natural shade from all sizes of palm trees. The sand is lovely and white and the water fantastic, some days very calm, others with a few waves which make it so much fun.
I have been to Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados, Mexico, St. Kitts, St.Marten, Grenada, Dominica and a few other islands on Caribbean Cruises, but I still think that this was the best beach I have encountered.

Ive been to several caribbean islands inc Mexico and it has to be Antigua for me we stayed on Long bay and stayed at the Grand Pineapple its a little isolated though, but Dickenson bay is also gorgeous where Sandals is.
Bloody bay in Negril where the Couples and Riu Negril/Tropical bay are situated although the latter is closed for renovation during November, the Sandals Negril is just round the corner.

Most of Bavaro beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is very beautiful but the calmness and the clarity of the water does depend very much on the season. Having just returned from what was an early Caribbean holiday for us I found that the sea was much more lively due to it being hurricane season and the conditions further out in the ocean. During our Nov/Dec holidays it was much calmer and clearer.
