Right, here it goes, I have read the other thread from Wilfred re xmas in Goa, all great stuff......
I am also keen to get over for the Xmas / New Year period, flying out on Xmas day and as you guys know flights are in short supply I am being quoted about £1,100 hey ho thats my fault should have booked eralier eh !!!
So I will be going on my own and I am thinking about Anjuna. I am looking for a little nightlife / parties in the evenings, some hippies / travellers, don't want kareokee and English bars, a couple of days chillin on a beach and somewhere to go on New Years Eve. I would also liek to spend a day or to looking at the local cultures maybe renting a bike.
This is the first time that I have been on a holiday on my own but have travelled and lived in many places on my own.
I think that I will travel light and get accomadtion booked for 2 nights and then see where I go form there.
So the questions are, am I going to the right resort (Anjuna), are my thoughts reagrding the accomadtion about right ??
Anything that I should consider that I have missed ????
Oh in terms of budget its not really a problem but I am quite happy to live basic, AC is a must is that Basic ??
Cheers
Nick
I would suggest Vagator.
1/ How far is it from Anjuna ?
2/ Which is the best airport to fly into from London
3/ Any reccomendations on resonable accomadation - providing there is anything left to book.
Nice one and thanks again !
Your first choice of Anjuna sounds better for what you are loking for. You will meet more like-minded people and there is life in Anjuna after dark. Curlies and Shiva Valley will be having 'parties' and if you wish to go to the 9 Bar (Vagator) its ten minutes (by bike) away. The beach is not so crowded (South Anjuna) and beach sellers are banned. It could be difficult anywhere to find accom for only 2 nights at this time of year, you wont need a/c, it can be chilly in the evenings. Suggest you book for a week, you'll want to be there for NY.
I think Anjuna would be better from what you have said. Not sure how easy it will be to find accommodation at short notice during New Year as domestic (Indian) tourists arrive in their masses from Mombai etc. Agree about A/C, in December & January a ceiling fan should be enough.
Accommodation is pretty basic (and cheap), but you might want to look at a couple of days in Arambol (Harmal) for a couple of days too...very, laid-back, very hippyish, bars and shacks on the beach, and yes, there may be a few parties around too if you fancy. It's more low-key than Anjuna but (I think) it's nicer and just more....chilled! Maybe go have a look for the day first.
Any pointers on somewhere to stay I am going to book the whole stay in advance, then book my flight separetley ??
Thanks
Your choices depend on what you require. Hotels in the area (near beach) are Laguna Anjuna, most probably fully booked as they have a lot of repeat business, Ive heard good reports of Villa Anjuna, and there is a new place called Nirvana Hermitage which also sounds good (lovely views). Other than that there are loads of guest houses for around 1000 ( double room, xmas rates, I think, could be more) for this you will get a clean room with fan, own shower, toilet and small balcony. Usually attached to a restaurant they are basic but sufficient for a beach holiday. Names include Sunset, Janet & Johns, cant remember the rest. 5 mins from beach is Marthas, very good, great breakfasts. I will be there next week. If you havent found anything pm me and I will see who has vacancies.
Have never stayed here, but I've been for a look-see, and it looks very nice.
