We spend a long January weekend each year in the Burley Manor Hotel in the New Forest. Comfortable, welcoming and good food. They even have theit own riding stables if you like horses. I like them in a stifado with lots of onions and mushrooms. The hotel is part of the Forestdale Group. There are special offers and events listed for different times of the year.
The breakfast is absolutely amazing!! Just read the reviews on the website.

Pippa
but it would be almost 1 hour drive to the centre of Poole from there, which may or may not matter to seagull.
I'm not sure how long it would take from Burley, probably 30-45 mins?
For real luxury, try the Chewton Glen Hotel near Barton on Sea.
Thanks all, we don't neccesary 'want' to go to Poole, we would much rather be staying somewhere back towards Southampton as we are also visiting friends in the centre of the Forest.
The Dairy at Packridge is only a few miles from Southampton so would be absolutely ideal. They do get very booked up though..........
Yes it's not far from junction 3 of the M27
