So if you want to go to a night market, set off early. Allow 2 hours for traffic jams and parking and 3 hours for going through the metal detectors and then being frisked. You won't be able to buy anything because no bags will be allowed in. Sounds like lots of fun!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl

personally I think it is good that they taking security seriously. There have been too many bombs in India recently and they have to think that Goa might be a target. I have been to Bali a few times in the last few years and got used to security there. I think some places are almost impossible to make safe but at least they are making an attempt.

It will be interesting to see how they do police it. As you say Fiona some places will just be impossible to make safe, such as the bus station and Mapusa market. Just too many people coming and going.
These threats wont stop me going anywhere, as the saying goes, "when your times up" The unfortunate thing is that with the credit crunch, the problems with visas and now these threats, it does look like Goa is not going to have the best of seasons.

I worry about my kids coming out Christmas and New year though (as i did a few years ago when there were terrorist threats ) as they go to tito's mambo's etc and I worry these are the kind of places to be targeted, like you Squigs I never really worry for myself, as you say, when your time is up !! but i cant help being stressy about my kids. :(

Mackies have already done this sort of thing in the past, I recall having a metal detecter thing passed across us as we entered.

How on earth they think they can install this sort of thing at Anjuna though is beyond me, too many places there to come and go.

They are planning to close the roads near cafe coffee day in Baga road up to the bridge :think have you seen the amount of cars on the fields surrounding baga bridge and baga road :duh they start parking on there 3 days before christmas and its solid so anyone thats thinking about going near the beach or brittios better set of atleast 5 days before :D i went down to baga beach last year 2 days before christmas left at 3pm to come home my car was stuck there for 4 days :duh
as for the markets are the police going to check through every sellers stuff as that would be a much easier way to get a bomb in, think they will have an impossible task on their hands, people either may not bother going or will need to be very vigilant

ooh sounds serious! Like you Chilly - I'm not looking forward to having the worry of my son working out there for 3/4 months! He's a rep and loves Baga and the nightlife that goes with it!
