I think you will find prices alot higher now than you've quoted.A large kingfisher is about a £1 now, food prices have gone up,and a taxi for a day will now cost you about £20,depending on where you go.

:yikes john have things gone up that much we will be out in a few weeks and im sure we will deffo see price changes we were just saying this year I think we will have to pay for sunbeds on the beach :yikes

You can still eat and drink cheaply enough away from the tourist belt. But as the rupee is going up against the pound (76 compared to 84 a few weeks ago) things will work out more expensive.

I agree with John, you can definetly eat cheaply away from the main tourist hotspots, ie restaurants which totally cater for tourists.

We met a nice lady a couple of years ago and she never goes to the main restaurants for a drink, she'd much rather go to a local bar and pay a third of the price. By no means is she 'tight', as she does visit tourist restaurants, but you find the atmosphere is a lot better in the local places.

john you say on your post away from the main tourist hotspots, what sort of money would they pay for say a large beer off the beaten track ..if you know what I mean ....colleen

Normaly pay about 55 rupees, saying that i know there is an increase due.I've been to a couple of shacks so far and the price for a large Kingfisher is still 70 rps. It's the food prices i've noticed have increased ,probably by around 15%.
