Lots of red tape involved if you want to have it in your name, although i'm sure whoever you buy it from will tell you otherwise!!! I know from past experience that the RTO department are not good to deal with esp if you're a foreigner.
Good Luck, GFF xxx

If you are only on a tourist visa, you won't be able to register the bike with the RTO office.

I bought a new Honda scooter about 3 years ago. I paid for it but had to have a Indians name as owning it . Big problem is cause its my scooter i am not renting it but i dont have the yellow and black number plates that people who rent have to have . I have not been stopped by the RTO yet but i am sure they will one day.
Plus i used to leave it to the guy whos name is on the bike in the monsoon and he used to use my scooter in all that rain and rent it out when i wasnt there ! I had it all resprayed and now a UK couple store it for me .
Cost me £500 for the scooter but i swear it paid for it self in the first 6 months of me being there and no arguing with Taxi drivers !

To have a bike/car in your own name you will need to be on an employment/business visa or a 5 year xvisa. It is also hard to convince the powers that be that you don't need to 'greese their palms'... Thankfully I was very lucky and did it greese free, although I tried since and they wanted some (which I just won't pay as it just compounds the problem)....

You'll also need copies of passport, lease agreement etc...

It's worth buying a new bike anyway as you know it's well looked after and they're not that much new... A pulsar is around £700, a scooter around £550

I think £150 you will get something good. Try to get a Honda Activa .Before you pay for it take it to a mechanic to check it over.
Your have to get a change of ownership form from Mapsa bus station if you buy it then put it in a indians name.

Or buy a electric scooter as you dont need a licence or i think road tax either . But i doubt you find a 2nd hand one of those.

Dont take the guy your buying the scooter from with you to the mechanic as he will talk in Konkani to the mechanic.
The mechanics that work by Spitfire bar / restaurants are really good as they always service my scooter while i am there .

We were in KC's bar and my OH kept saying he wanted to buy a TUK TUK.
I went over the road to the shop attached to Pauls and bought him a packet of TUC TUC biscuits.
He wasn't impressed but it shut him up and the biscuits went next with a jug of their Cider drink.

:rofl
