Hi Lesley,

We are travelling with Grand in June, doing a similar journey to yours.

Our first cruise was when the children were 7 & 5 years, we were apprehensive as not ever done it before. We did'nt book any excursions because we felt the children would be bored for long periods of time if having to sit on coach etc, so at every port we would get off and do our own thing, only for a few hours to experience what we could with them.

They were far to interested in getting back on to go back to club with their newfound friends!!

The facilities on Grand look great don't they...... can't wait to go.

We will this year though book a couple of organised trips, as they are slightly older now and more interested in different places, they both want to go into Rome !

Hope you have a great time

Yes, I think they will enjoy the kids club etc. They are OK with a little sightseeing but, as you said, we think it will be better to get off and do things ourselves, so at least we have a bit of control over how long we see things for etc. I know it will get easier as they get older too. Hope you enjoy your cruise! :)

Hi- sounds like a great cruise, I'm sure you will all have a good time. If I were taking children I would definitely agree on short trips ashore rather than long ones. A couple of suggestions- Gibraltar- the apes are great fun, you can get a taxi there easily. Alicante- the beach is very close to the port, couple of hundred yards. The castle doesn't look much from the bottom, but it's really nice when you get up there; there is a tunnel and lift right opposite the beach. Barcelona- Parc Guell is appealing and there is space to run around! Also the Pueblo Espanol has little toy shops and workshops, and entertainment for all. It's very close to the fountains and olympic stadium, too. Livorno- if you think they would be interested in the leaning tower, that's probably your best bet. You can get horse and carriage rides from near the tower around town.
Have fun! kate

Hi, thanks for those suggestions, very useful info, I didn't know much about Alicante and Gibraltar and if its hot enough in May, the beach etc will be the most fun, I think! Keep those suggestions coming. Cheers. ;)
