I would think that you would be best advised to leave a 39 Euro jamón where it is.

Seriously, I can't see it being much good at that price, and they would also need a jamónero to keep it still whilst trying to carve it,.............................. unless your Dad has a Black & Decker workmate.

You don't seem too happy with my reply.

Jamónes can cost an awful lot of money, even the supermarkets will stock ones at 250 euro each, and the cheapest ones (which cost a minimum of 20 euro, in most places), are truly dreadful. They are rubbish and would not be appreciated as a present.

They are almost impossible to carve even with the best jamóneros and specialised cuchillos; and if you are lucky enough to find any meat it will be so tough as to be unpalatable. It is not really any good for frying either (I have brought them for this purpose, and always end up giving them to my dog).

Stores tend to package together any goods that they cannot shift during the year, put them in fancy baskets and try to offload them as Christmas presents. As I said earlier, they are best avoided.

Have you considered bath salts or perhaps a box of chocolates instead?

Still, 40€ will get you a half decent paleta - that's the front end of a pig. They are smaller than jamones but a good paleta is much better than a cheap jamon.
