Butch, i've booked for spain next year but if it got cancelled i wouldn't be bothered!!
We have always found the UK companies (Eurowosit I'll call them !) are the most expensive way to see Europe no matter where you go or how you go independant or using the companies equipment.
As for the Exchange rate it is ALWAYS in a state of flux and for the last couple of years we have had extremely good rates now everyone is getting real with the exchange rate (either that or Gordon Browns doing the pound in so we HAVE to go into the Euro) so it will cost us more for a change.
Our trip this year is probably going to cost us
Fuel £325
Tolls £120
Campsite fees -- Camping cheques £120(9 cheques)
Campsite fees --- independant campsites £50
Ferry crossing (already booked) £120
total £700 ish for 22 days (about £40 a day for 2 of us) IF we went Eurowosit that would double at least
BTW other trips are :
3 nights Pisa this month
1 week Canaries March
1 week Egypt October
as well as the 22 nights wiht the van and any other caravan nights I can sneak in

Have you thought about North West Norfolk? It's dotted with pretty villages and has a wide variety of accommodation available including cottages, apartments, B&Bs. hotels, campsites. The beaches are fantastic and the countryside is lovely too. There's plenty to do for people of all ages.
