Fuel is only slightly cheaper than the UK (diesel 1€05) whe we were last there restaurant food was quite near to UK prices
I did some shopping in Carrefour, Reims two weeks ago, unfortunately as I rarely shop in the UK I can't compare prices. Diesel was 93.9cents in the Supermarket filling stations though it has probably increased a little as prices have increased throughout Europe in the last few days. Check out http://www.carrefour-calais.com where you may get some idea of prices.
The last French supermarket I was in was last February and it was quite reasonable prices, but that at Boulogne, and a Champion supermarket (the name of it!)
