We had a lovely week in Benidorm took in the three Kings parade which was lovely. First time we have gone in January and will return again in September. Local bar owners were complaining about the lack of trade and we did notice a couple had closed down. Two have closed just around from the Maderia Centro, one called Temple bar and the other on the same street with the tree inside of it(apologise forgotten the name. They are both stripped out so they are not closed for the season. Also one of the big music bars on the front near the old town recently refurbished also closed they used to have live music and dancing on every evening mainly for Spanish guests. I noticed some bars and restaurants were trying realy hard to entice people with offers of cheaper meals and drinks which will help everyone.
We stayed again in the MC the hotel won the prize for the best decorated hotel in Benidorm it was beautiful inside and out. However I was disappointed they have started to charge residents 1.5 Euros to enter their music lounge 4 Euros non residents.
Cheers

Blimey - thats a bit of a cheek! Spain is suffering badly in the recession unfortunately. Many bars and restaurants have closed and lots of expats are returning home as their pensions are not worth as much with such a drop in the exchange rate. However, it is on the up, 1.11 today as opposed to parity a couple of weeks ago. Glad you enjoyed the 3 Kings - the Spanish certainly enjoy their parades and fiestas!
