Marlou is flying out to Taba tomorrow. I know she was quite concerned so I'm sure she'll report back as soon as she can.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about being in Taba. I know it is near the border with Israel but it is completely the opposite end and therefore miles away. I would go to taba tomorrow and make the trip into Israel again with no worries at all.

But there was quite a bit of activity on the border with Egypt too Val, which isn't too far away from Taba. I know Marlou has put it to the back of her mind now and I'm sure she'll have a great time :)

Marlou phoned at 5pm to say they'd arrived safely. The hotel (Movenpick hotel & resort) looked awesome at 1st sight. Their room is huge, with a King & Queen size bed & she said you could hold a party on the balcony. It was 24 degrees - just slightly warmer than here :rofl :rofl

HI all
Just come back from Taba after staying at sol y mar sea star also not far from border. We had no problems at all you wouldn't even have known there was a war over the border!
The only scary thing was the convoy through the dessert at night wasn't expecting this!!
Locals very hospitable with brits would say to anyone going don't worry!
And if you read my concerns at the start of this disscussion you will see I was worried before going!!!
SO to anyone going have a great hol we did! :)

Just to confirm that Marlou is having a fab time there. It's sweltering today & they've been sitting in the shade all morning.

Have just returned from Sharm, there is no problem there, trips to Jordan are still being booked. The only trip not to take is Jerusalem. Sharm is miles away from any trouble ;) We had a great holiday, our first trip to Egypt, third try, after troubles previously. Don't let these problems put you off your holiday. Have a great time, visit the pyramids, if you have not done so in the past. We flew there, booked it in Naama and had a good deal £154 each to fly, and visit pyramids, museum, lunch in Cairo, papyrus shop, etc: all the tour operator will do, at less cost. We did a trip on the nile (extra 60 E.Pounds) optional. :D

I shouldn't have given the war a thought. We had an amazing wonderful holiday, and I'd go back tomorrow. I even ventured out on a jeep safari through the desert, something I said I wouldn't do. The only trip they stopped was Jerusalem, even the waiters were telling us not to venture into Israel. I only panicked on the 2nd day. It was around 4.30pm, I was lying nicely on the lounger when this gun fire like a machine gun went off. Well you can imagine i nearly fell off the lounger to take cover, only to find It was the naval ship at the border taking practice shots into the sea. Something that they did every so often. I felt so so stupid and embarassed :rofl :rofl

Not stupid at all Marlou - I would have done exactly the same thing.

Glad you enjoyed your trip, did you have any delays on your return flight due to conditions here in the UK?.

Your story reminds we of a time over twenty years ago when my cousin and her friend visited me here in Germany, they came banging on my bedroom door in the middle of the night as they were sure that world war three had started, (this was during the cold war period with the USSR) I hadn't told them that about a mile away from my house the American Army had a training area and the army had chosen that particular night to have night maneuvers with all the big guns blazing. :yikes
I've just read you post about the delays, what a bad experience after what sounded like a great holiday.

5 and a half hours delay, then when we got on the plane they said that the water supply wasn't working, resulting in no water to wash your hands after using the loo, and no tea and coffee throughout :banghead: :banghead:
