everyone likes to do different things on holiday, i hate being hotel bound, if i go on holiday i want to see some of the country, do trips, go and visit local bars, shops, restaurants etc and being stuck in a hotel with not a lot around the area isnt paradise for me either, more of a nightmare :que , the beaches in this area of what i saw werent very nice either, not very scenic and very shingly, sorry i.l.turkey but i totally disagree that the antalya area is the best place to go !!! i have read the hotels there are a high standard ,but i didnt like what i saw when we visited although i stayed in central antayla but did visit the lara beach area, so i think thats a bit of a sweeping statement, its an individual thing

Yalikavak, on the Bodrum Peninsula, is a lovely place for couples. It has a beautiful centre and harbour with lots of lovely waterside restaurants. It has some good bars, but no noisy discos or clubs. The transport system is so good that you can easily go into Bodrum, or another resort, at night if you fancy going to a club occasionally.

Once again I have to agree with Kedi (as I usually do). I would hate to be hotel-bound, especially in Turkey. I can't begin to think of all the things I would have missed if we had stayed in our hotel - from having to get out of the car to move the kaplumba (tortoise) out of the way on a small country road to the beautiful scenery which changes around every corner. We wouldn't have made all the fantastic Turkish friends who we keep in touch with all year. We would never have seen the flamingoes on Lake Tuzla or the cotton growing in the fields on the back roads to Akbuk.

I know that everybody wants something different out of a holiday and for some people, never having to move away from the hotel complex would be idea - it's just not for us. We went to Egypt a couple of Christmases ago and that was the thing that drove us mad, not having anywhere to go outside the complex.

I agree with you entirely Jakki. The whole idea of going "abroad" is to see what other countries are like, and experience their food etc. If you stay within a complex you might as well go to Butlins, well with some better weather ;)

Why go to a wonderful country like Turkey and stay in large AI hotels with lots of East European guests and guests who drink from morning till night?
It sounds like a complete nightmare to me. :yikes

I couldn't have put it better - or maybe replace "East European guests" with Brits?? I feel ashamed to be British sometimes.
