I agree with that Sanji. I'm looking at staying at the marina end in November for just 5 days and if I can get the right price it will be the Riu marina. I'm seriously thinking of avoiding a car this time and relying on transport/taxis. I like to have a few drinks in the afternoon and drinking and driving is not the best thing to do, especially at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently looking at holidays in Costa Del Sol for June this year. This thread is interesting, lots of different opinions!

We were in Fuengirola a couple of years ago, but right over at Myramar Castle Beach on the extreme south of the town beside a big shopping centre. Like it, and hopped the bus to town sometimes, walked sometimes. We did the day trip to Gibraltar although we wouldn't be doing that if we return this year. We also went into Malaga which we enjoyed, and stopped off at Plaza Mayor on the way back which was nice. I've seen a good deal for Sol Principe in Torremolinos, and reviews look good. We didn't go into Benal or Torre last time other than on the transfer bus when we were dropping people off - only on the back streets really and it didn't look that appealing. The Sol Principe seems to be in an area called La Colina, presumably near La Colina train station so we'd be able to take the train from the airport.

Any thoughts on what we might like? We're after 4*, and if it's a hotel has to be good food. We're vegetarian and I'm a bit fussy too, so it is probably best if it's a big hotel! I'm thinking HB might be better value due to the exchange rate and generally the money you can spend eating out. We'd still eat out for lunch (snack) and maybe an odd evening too. We're in our mid 30s and don't go to clubs, but would like a selection of bars with reasonable drinks (don't have to be 1euro pints!).

Any opinions on the area or other suggestions welcomed.

Go to the Hotel Reviews page and read my report on this hotel. It is the first one on the list. It is too far to walk from La Colina station, get off at Torremolinos and get a cab ( about 8 euros) or walk up to the bus station (3 or 4 min) fare 1.10. The area is very quiet .

Lesley74 - how did you manage eating out due to being veggie?

sanji - less of the "I personally wouldn't stay in Benalmadena" - I have to live there for part of the year But know what you mean. Arroyo is the best part of living in that area.

I personally find it very difficult to find decent veggie food in the restaurants in Spain, not just on this coast. They are really into their meat and fish, even when you eat meat there is not much choice of fresh veg unless you go for the Sunday Lunch type meal and just eat the pototoes and veg. Or it is soup, omelette and cheese and chips all the time, we have stopped bothering going out to eat as it gets rather boring. On any menu del dia I can usually find a starter and a pud but the main course is the problem.

We mainly ate pasta - there was a nice Italian restaurant on a side street off fish alley. We also found a nice pizzeria, and there was another Italian that wasn't so good over beside Pat & Adrians bar at the other end of fish alley. The best one was opposite an irish pub though on the side street.

I don't mind chips but I'm not into omlettes at all (and I'm even a bit funny about how things are cooked, so I'm picturing a meaty omlette pan...). I still managed to find food. Barcelona however was a completely different story, found that quite difficult!
