Hello All
I'm busy planning my 4th trip to Goa for 3 weeks over the Christmas/New Year period. Instead of package holidays as we've done previously I'm looking at booking flights and accommodation separately. My dates are 10 Dec 09 to 3 Jan 10 and I want to be in Candolim (towards the area around Casa Sea Shell rather than Calangute end). The problem is that although I know prices are hiked up at this time of year I'm clueless as to what I should expect to pay! I've already emailed a few hotels but the only one to get back to me so far is the Sunset Beach and they've quoted 62,100INR for 23 nights in a double room with air-conditioning, which at the current exchange rate is about £887. Does that sound like a reasonable deal? In your experience is it worth waiting till nearer the time or is it best to book in advance?
Any advice would be appreciated and/or an indication of prices I should expect for this time of year in a 2* hotel/studio apartment. I don't want to pay over the odds but at the same time I wouldn't know what a good deal looked like either!!!!
I am busy planning my xmas holiday as well and my dates are exactly the same as yours.
I stay in Candolim and have had various prices emailed to me from guest houses / holiday homes, the prices I have been quoted vary from 800 rupees to 2,500 for a double room without air/con per night. I have made a provisional booking for an apartment for 900 rupees per night.

We always go over xmas and do pay inflated prices for the flights...This Year Newcastle to Goa via Heathrow and Mumbai with BA and Indian Airlines cost us approx £800 each but that was flying on boxing day you may get cheaper going earlier in Dec.
We always stay in small guesthouses/apartments this year we paid 900 a night we could find a bit cheaper for after xmas but the place is nice and we are happy with that.
I would say find somewhere for your first night or so and then look around I am sure that you will find plenty of vacant rooms if this year is anything to go by I dont think you would really need Airconditioning in December a ceiling fan should do or at least dont pay upfront for it yet and see when you get there.
Good Luck
Julie
I've just taken the plunge and booked the flights! Heathrow to Goa via Mumbai with Kingfisher Airlines £872 for 2 people. Even if I did end up paying the price quoted by Sunset Beach it would still work out a lot cheaper than a package deal (21 nights with Thomas Cook at that hotel was £2880 for 2!!).
I will keep looking for accomodation so any recommendations would be appreciated - 900rs a night sounds good! I'm not sure I'm brave enough to only book for the first couple of nights, I normally like to plan ahead!
Hi Claire have you thought of an apartment there are some good one,s opp the Highland beach
An apartment would be ideal, I like the idea of having the facilities to make our own food instead of having to eat out all the time. I've looked at the websites you've mentioned but most apartments seem to be for groups rather than couples - and the price reflects that. Do you know the name of the ones opposite HB so I can hunt them out please and get a quote?
Thanks
Claire
Hi Claire will get my booking out and send you pm,we have a 2bedroom booked for just 2 of us
