I agree with your post 'cant think' but have to take you to task with the comment on poorer AI in the Dalaman area. Lykia World, Nr Olu Deniz is probably one of the best in Turkey (though I accept it's FB not AI) and Hillside nr Fethiye is probably the best in Turkey (never stayed there mind, last time I priced it up, it was around £8K for 3 adults in August :rofl ).

The 2 AIs I have stayed at in Turkey were the Hemera and the Club Turban. Both 5 star hotels and it wasnt until I went on my 1st B&B holiday to Icmeler last October did I realise that AI is not for us any more.
It probably is the best way when you have children,I went on caravan holidays in Cornwall when our kids were at home. :rofl :rofl
My husband can eat for England and enjoyed eating out each evening in a different restaurant without having to do battle at the food stations! We had lunch every day on the sea front which was paradise. With Efes at 1TL and 2TL in several places, the total we spent as a couple didnt cost as much as I thought. The hotel was central and all the guests were friendly and so were the staff.
The better AIs seem to now attract a nationality who have got no manners and I cant bear the thought of spending my holidays in conflict!
I am going HB this May to Gumbet mainly because of the good reviews of the hotel, but will eat out most of the time.

Hemera form Gatwick March 25th 2 weeks £369!Manchester £407. Its a crime the amount the charge for school holidays!

I understand what you are saying can't think of a username but I think it is also dependant on the kind of holiday experience you are looking for as well. When I said previously that you would be stuck in a hotel I didn't literally mean that you would never leave but that as you have paid for everything up front you would spend the majority of your eating and drinking time there. I'm sure there are a lot of people though who don't leave the complex, not that it is only people who stay at AI who stay put all day, I have seen those in B&B hotels and SC apatments who spend all day every day by the pool, eat at the restaurant at the apartments and drink in the bar all night.

While that is good for some people for others it is part of the holiday to go out exploring and finding nice little places to eat all over the place. We very often just get on a bus and go to another town for lunch, some days we will eat by the sea, others we will find a little back street restaurant used by locals, sometimes we will visit friends, we never spend a whole day at our accomodation so we only need something basic. Having said that we have stayed at some lovely private apartments and houses that have everything in.

Another thing is that if we were at a hotel, once the children are in bed we would have to just sit in a hotel room, whereas with an apartment or house you have a living room so we can sit and have a drink and a chat without disturbing the little ones.

Anyway I'm sure you are looking forward to your holiday as much as we are, it gives me something to think about on these cold winter days :sun2

If i went in a 3* s/c it would of cost £2000 and I am not sure we could of eaten 3 times a day, have ice cream, cakes and drinkks on £28 per day pp and the 4* s/c is £2800 and we have to manage on £17 per day p/p. When you have 5 adults eating and drinking the money doesn't go far. For what I am paying it is a good deal and when you add in the standard of accommodation its even a better deal. Cost just as much to go to a 3* A/I to spain and the standard of everything is lower. And thanks I will try my best to enjoy my holiday :sun2

What makes me happy my 2 daugheters and daughters friend can go and get a drinks when they want it, get food when they want it and the best part I won't be bothered. :tup

My mates wife goes A/I and won't go any other board, she says I work hard all year round and, cook and clean and I don't want to have lift a finger on holiday and I want everything there in one place. She doesn't want to troop around looking for what restaurant to eat in, buying food and making breakfeast's and lunch, she wants to totally relax. They do plenty of trips and gets out and about. I can understand what she is saying, mention s/c to her and she won't even answer you. I can understand where she is coming from.

People's circumstances change from time to time and whats ok for a holiday this year might not be ok another year. Everybody is different, with different tastes, some like going out to a restaurant every night and others just want to be able to come out of their room and go downstairs for dinner and have a big choice.

My last holiday was H/B to majorca and wouldn't go A/I in majorca because I want a good standard accommodation and actually paid as much for a good 4* H/B hotel compared to a 3* A/I, its no all about paying 1 price and everything is in, quality of accommodation comes into play as well. If I went to the dalaman area's there is no way I would do A/I because 95% of the A/I hotels are not upto standard and I would pay more to stay B/B or H/B in a good 4* or 5* hotel. One of my main problems S/C is the accommodation is always very basic, and sometimes a H/B or A/I hotel can work out cheaper to stay in and have found that many times when pricing up holidays.

What ever type of holiday people choose have a great time. :)

Hi can't :) thanks for your reply. Sorry wasn't ignoring you couldn't get on-line yesterday.

I'm a bit like your mates wife LOL and when in Turkey can't be bothered with trouping about every night to look for a restaurant, still seen plenty, eaten out, shopped, visited beaches, cocktail bars etc. Me and DH have demanding and stressful jobs so like to relax. I don't mind SC in Algarve although 3 key accommodation is basic everywhere, but eating out is fine (apart from the state of the Euro LOL) due to no hassle, can't be bothered with the hassle in Turkey. Only ever stayed AI and full board plus in the Dalaman area. Both were an extremely high standard, fabulous staff etc So might be worth you giving it a go.

Personally though if people want to go in a hotel on day one and not leave till day 14 good luck to them, their money, their holiday, their business. Have a great one.

One of the reasons I was put off AI in Turkey was the better AIs seem to attract a certain Nationality that have no manners and create a scrum at meal times. :yikes
I didnt get one bit of hassle in Icmeler last October and eating out in the lovely restaurants was a pleasure and an oasis of calm in comparison to the mayhem at meal times in the last AI I was at (Club Turban).
This is probably the only place I will go B&B because of the variety of excellent restaurants.Deciding where to go each night became a problem because every place we ate in was excellent.

I guess it depends on whether you think of it as hassle or friendly banter really. I never feel hassled when I am out and about in Turkey, I actually enjoy having a chat to people.

Jay, I remember those kind of people when I went on a cruise in Egypt - very rude :yikes

Kedi,I really miss the banter and still stop to talk to the lads outside the restaurants, but unfortunately they can get into trouble for this if they are seen by the police :yikes
It amazes me when they speak to you in your accent and know more about your football team than you do. :rofl
I am really looking forward to my holiday in May even though my OH still is saying he isnt going. :rofl
