Hi Alison.Alanya has great shops, nightlife and you find many day trips to places to numerous to mention.Do not take the trip to Antalya otherwise you will pass the airport on the way to the centre and it will take you 2.5 hours.Enjoy your stay.

There are a lot of Germans that live all year in Alanya and those that come on Holiday.Look at the Thomson and Thomas Cook Catalogue's which will give you an idea of Brit hotels. You don 't have to book with them but it will give you an idea of what to look at.

I have visited Alanya a few times as it is about 2 hrs from Antalya where I live...it has grown over the years and is a large resort so you will find many places for night life etc..

There is a lot of history with Alanya with plenty of places to visit nearby..have a read here ;

be sure to visit the Seljuk fortress , Damlataş Cave, Dim cave, the tall, octagonal Seljuk Kizilkule (Red Tower); and the Tersane (shipyard), also about 1 hour away is the city of Side and Temple of Apollo, Manavgat Waterfall, the historical area of Aspendos & the Köprülü Kanyon which is used for rafting.

Alanya is fabulous..i have lived here for 13 years..i can never understand why Brits have a problem with germans or in fact other europeans. :( we are all the same.
Alanya is cosmopolitan and theres room enough for everybody. the beaches are extensive stretching for about 15 kilometres...the beaches in town are lively but not packed in like sardines as ive seen in some resorts.
the night life is as lively or as sophisticated as you want it to be...and kids are welcome everywhere.
one of the best places in alanya in the daytime heat is to spend the day on the Dimcay..a popular river just out of town where there are dozens of picnic restaurants most of them nowadays with water chutes
and things to keep you active..or you can sleep all day on the floating rafts..which have a little tables cushions and carpets..dont worry they are also enclosed so you wont fall off. ;)
depending on what you are looking for in an hotel the ergun in the very centre is popular with brits as is the Grand okan and the grand Zaman and the Riviera..there are too many to mention so thats just off the top of my head..hah..
its a great place...come and see.

We are going to Alanya in August and after reading a few reviews of the resort are starting to feel a little uneasy to say the least. All we want from our holiday is places to see and stuff to do during the day, and a few nice restaurants for an evening. Have we picked the wrong destination for this ? We have also heard a few horror stories about our accomodation (Best House Hotel), however, all we need from this is a clean bed and a bathroom. Really worried as this is a much needed holiday which has cleaned out our savings.
Any advice greatly appreciated. :

I went to Alanya 4 years ago, with wife and two kids and it was OK!

Down side.... transfer from airport, 2 hours.

I don't think it will be a disaster for you, i don't know the hotel you are staying in, but the area was pretty clean, had a good beach and plenty of places to eat and drink.

One trip that you MUST do is the jeep safari to DIM CHI (spelling??) its river/mountain jeep safari that was brilliant. Booked thru Tims Tours.

Watch the heat, we had several days of 48 deg C!!!!
Hope that helps.
