Thought I would give a review of this island and sadly its not a good one.
Visited start of September 2008 on honeymoon.
If you are thinking of booking here be advised on a few points....
1. Half of the island is surrounded by an awful concrete/sandbag wall. Half the rooms have great beach other half have this eye saw and foul algea filled pools between you and the seawall.
2. Management is a nightmare...The Australian lady that seemed to be in charge was rude and seemed very stressed the whole time (not the reception I would expect) we where greeted with "We wernt expecting you" !?!?!?
3. Assistant Manager was worse. I think a Sri Lankan gentleman who I saw repeatadly pretend he didnt understand english when it suited him and stood stareing blankly at guests(rest of the time he spoke/understood english just fine!)
4. Food was realy basic and all tasted the same (awful).
5. Inclusive drinks? We spent most nights away from main bar at the "Beach Bar" paying for drinks with decent brands in as the "included" drinks were for the most part like paint thinner.
I could go on but your no doubt getting the idea.
As a foot note I would like to add I have visited Laguna in the maldives and frankly it was amazing. From the moment you stepped of the speedboat to the moment you left. Laguna is a maldivian island paradise. Meedhupparu is a butlins in the tropics, in fact that harsh on Butlins.
Only the Maldivian locals and other Sri lankans and Indians working on Meedhupparu (waiters + room staff) made our honeymoon bareable.
I would think long and hard before chooseing this Island as if you have never been to the maldives before you will not get a fair idea of how amazing a place it is.
We spent a few evenings in the main bar taking advantage of the all-inclusive drinks, however, I think it was only one evening that we actually managed to get seats actually in the bar area - woefully inadequate for the number of visitors - other evenings were spent on the seating around the pool venturing up to the bar as and when, which was ok except when it rained!
I can't remember much about the food which makes me think it was adequate at best.
Next time I go I will go back to Kurumathi. We went there on our first visit and liked it so much we went back. The first time we got a great deal on a water bungalow (worked out expensive though as it was only RB), 2nd time all-inclusive in Coconut Village.
Am thinking of going to Meedhupparu this year any comments would be welcome please Is the seaplane transfer included in the price
