The Oriental opposite is first class. It is located in the grounds of the Mira.

If you go down to the second roundabout (that's what I call it) the one nearest the beach - If you're facing the beach turn left at that island (The same road you go down to Molly Malones) About 200 metres down that road on the right is a hotel called the Mira.

At the back of this hotel in the evenings is a Thai restaurant (the names escapes my ageing brain at the moment) it's a little more expensve than a lot of the restaurants but the food is superb. They also do a fantastic steak, the wine is decent and their desserts are yummy. I don't think you would be dissappointed.

If anyone can help me with the name I'd be grateful.

Our friends always eat at least once at The Plaintain leaf towards the bottom of the main street just before the island mentioned in my previous post.

They tell me it's an excellent curry and cheap. I don't eat there myself , it's a veggy restaurant and I do have to have my meat !!

Redonda is nice at the bottom of the High St on the left near the roundabout.

Dave's wife, you should have read paul-iow above, the Thai is called The Oriental and it is great

Redonda on the corner is good and Capricorn going down to the beach

The Chippy is good for breakfast or lunch, Molly Malone's for live music if you want to rock an roll on Wednesday but only english food, not that exciting or the Infantria at the weekends

The best places are in Baga ...Kim Faa, East meets West, Fire an Ice , Lazydays, Nisha Britos to name a few and of course don't forget the Shacks

I did read the post above - It posted whilst I was typing my post just prior to submission.

Thought it was worth leaving as it does give directions

hi

i am not going to recommend a place to eat sorry...just a place not to eat....

its called the chippy and its just off the main road and is absolutely disgusting.....when we went there for a meal ourselves and 4 other tables refused to eat the food as it was awful.....we just paid and got off as did the others

Hi angieh

It is always hard to recommend somewhere as they all have their off days or weeks or don't meet some peoples requirements, you can only work with your own visits to a place.

Living out here I can only tell you about places we have been too and if they looked after my friends or family ,what it was like upon someone else's visit I can not answer for.

I have been thinking about this. The Chippy is a cafe a few tables in side and a couple for benches out front, it is nothing posh almost a transport cafe the food is basic English but on the better side of good.

It is now run by Leslie of Molly Malone's fame and he is hard on his staff and the food is constantly good English fare.... Full English breakfast , Cottage pie , Fish an' chips. It is a breakfast or lunch place at 200 RS or so max

are you sure you have the right place angie

hi again

defo the right place...and being the first time in goa we paid as we didnt want to cause a scene....it was an evening that we went there as it was getting on and we just wanted something quick and easy....we ended up jumping in a tuk tuk and going to subway.....lol

it may have just been an off nite cos as i said it wasnt just us that left our food, three other families chose not to eat

i ordered egg and chips and the chips looked like they were cooked days previously and my husband ordered pie and chips and got what looked like stewing steak with a shabby pastry top like a fray bentos....lol.....but worse...lol

but as they say you cant please everyone and thats my opinion that it wasnt a very nice place to eat

Not quite in the main street - but if you walk 200 metres past the Hindu Temple on the road towards Arpora, you will see Pousada Tauma. It's on the corner at the road junction.
It can be a bit on the expensive side, but the food is superb. :tup

A friend has just come back from Goa, she recommended a Thai restaurant opposite the Silla Hotel. Does anybody know if that is the Oriental at the Mira?

The Mira is opposite, you are right. The Thai restaurant has not to be missed

Not in Calungute high street but a place you must go to is Sousa Lobbo's over looking the beach by the steps. The Crabs in garlic are to die for if you like that sort of thing, three of them about 130 Rs

Wilsons is also down that way and is very good but need a map ref or guide to find it

i dont think ive been in the chippy but cant be sure!

pousada tauma and the thai sound very interesting, will give them a go.

may well try a few places in baga as we are a bit closer this time, east meets west normally gets visited a couple of times while we are there.
