Just got back from PDC yesterday and wish we were back there!!
The road works seem to have gone a long way since some first photos I saw. Not so much lorries, diggers etc and a lot of the pavements are almost finished (still watch where you're walking)! the road is narrowed down to one way, and apart from a couple of workmen we didn't see much happening at all. Could be due to the Carnival which was there on Sat night. Every thing was cleared up and put away so could hardly see any signs of work in progress at all! In all, didn't seem like a building site at all - at least along the front. The main road up above the harbour had huge trenches dug and this was causing no end of hassle with cars and buses having to go one way down to a roundabout and back up just to get up the road a bit!!
Carnival was great fun, great atmosphere - if you have a chance to see it one year you will love it!
Euro was at 1.09 on Saturday.
Prices are almost on par with the UK so can work out expensive if you want to eat out a lot.
drinks, beer ranged from 1.50 for large in some bars to 3.50, and around 2 for a half. Long drinks were about 6 euro.
We had great brekkie in the Spanish Bar (but is in fact english) on the front, for 4 euro (full english).
Puerto Viejo and Puerto bahia round the harbour are nice to eat in. We recommend Puerto Viejo, excellent food and attentive waiters and nice atmosphere.
There is another restaurant on the end, down from Viejo, can't remember what it was called, had a nice meal, but waited 20 mns for the bill, and we had to ask 3 times!!!! They weren't bothered so won't be going there again!
Work going on around the harbour but didn't look too much of an eyesore.
Can't think of anything else to add at the mo .... Will add more if I think of anything useful !!!!

Thanks for your review Jan . glad you had a good time, was the weather decent. Did it go cold at night.
Evenings did get off bit chilly, but just wore a cardi out (not JUST a cardi)! and it was fine. Winds were very light so think that helped with the temps.

Thanks for the info janbabe, we are going on Sunday!
Good queen bess - I'm sure it will be great for you. Weather is getting warmer and if you are going to PDC the road works are not nearly as messy as a few months ago, just some work to do on the pavements but its not too bad.
Carnival was fab, I have some pics and vids I will post when I get a minute.
Roadworks/pavment on the front was nearly finished, they just have a mall amount of paving to lay.
However the old town does still have a few diversions in place and very big holes in the ground.
A great bar we found was a small outdoor placr in the old town, opposite the Indian & Pizza, it was called the bus stop and they give VERY generous measures and are lovely friendly people who let us eat our takeaway pizza at their tables as they dont serve food.
