just returned from Baga, 1st time in Goa and also in my 40's, we had a great time,. never went to Baga beach tended to travel to more secluded ones a bit futher away. i'm not to sure about the timing of your holiday as its close to if not in monsoon season and most of the places are closed.

I'd advise self catering or B&B rather than all inclusive. There's loads of restaurants serving gorgeous food so you would miss out on so much if you stayed in the hotel for your meals.

Are you aware that May and June are out of season? I would imagine that a lot will be shut up but I'm sure some of the longstayers will be able to tell you more about that time of year.

Mid-November to April is the season.

sorry David
meant to say :welcome to the Goa forum.
Our first time we went just before the season started- in October. Most restaurants were not open and there were no shacks on the beach. Still found enough to do at night and we loved it. But we were at the tail end of a multi stop holiday so we were exhausted :) I would only go just out of season if we were off sightseeing elsewhere beforehand.

hello David and :welcome to our Goa forum

the Goa season is November to end April, whether you go north or south depends on what you prefer a) more going on and more to do - north is better, b) less going on and more chill-out and relaxing - south is better. They both have lovely beaches. It is so cheap to eat out at the beach shacks during the day and in the restaurants for dinner in the evening that it's not worth doing AI, as the food is so tasty and you can get a variety of all foods-not just Indian. Theres plenty of hotels B&B and plenty of apartments for self-catering.

If you want any more information about hotels or apartments just ask on here, there is always someone that can help.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hi David

I can't really add a lot to what's been said, June is not the time for your first visit to Goa.

The time I like the best is mid Nov to end of Jan, Feb to April can be very hot and humid, at the moment it is 40+c.
Early morning and evenings are great but I stay in the shade for three plus hours from midday.

Coming to Goa for the first time I would look at getting a cheap package for a two star hotel in North Goa that you can move from if you do not like it or use as a base to explore from.

IMHO Goa is not a 5* sit by the pool type holiday, you can go anywhere in the world for that.
Goa is a place to unwind, a walk down the beach to find a shack you like the look of to relax, eat in or doss on their sunbeds for the day, a stroll down the road in the evening to find a place to eat some of the best food to be found anywhere at a price that won't break the bank or hire a taxi for the day to go on one of the tour reps recommended trips for half the price or just to explore further north or down south.

If none of that appeals how about a train to Hampi for a few days or a flight up to Delhi and the Taj Mahal

You just have to do it
