Icmeler prices are reasonable for food and there are also very cheap drinks to be had too, but its a case of shopping around. Prices vary from bar to bar. There is an older part of Icmeler, the old village, which is quieter than the main part, just depends on just how quiet you are looking for.
Me and my Husband are both in our 50's, (nearly for me) and we have not gone anywhere else since finding Marmaris in 2006, then Icmeler in 2007, we usually go twice a year now.
I am sure others will give their views on other parts of Turkey, but these are the only places in Turkey I have visited and I totally love it. Its a very addictive place.
If you do decide to give Icmeler a go, there is a wonderful forum full of great advice about the place at http://www.icmeleronline.com/forum/
Happy holidays wherever you may choose.
I agree with turkeyconvert about Icmeler, wonderful place with wonderful people. There is a Discussion running on Icmeler, if you scroll back through the forum to April 22nd, 2008, you will find all you need to know about the resort. Hisaronu/Ovacik(located up in the hills and nicely cool) are two more places I would also recommend, you are only a short dolmus ride from Olu Deniz and its beaches and conservation area. Go in the other direction and you've got the town of Fethiye with its beautiful harbour and huge weekly market. Buy your fish from the market and take it to a restaurant and they will cook it for you. If you don't have walking difficulties then I would also suggest Kalkan, though it doesn't have a beach as such, Patara Beach is only a dolmus ride away. The secret of having a great holiday in Turkey is to take the time to speak to the people. Once you've been to Turkey you won't want to go anywhere else.
You wont get much better than belek, all your hotels are five* and are all right on the beach ,15 mins to the town of belek and kadriye ,depending on what end of the resort you are at .Really quiet and lovely beaches. There is also lots of places of historic interest in the area which you can book excursions for at really cheap rates.

I would agree with bluepeterno1 about Belek or Side, lovely beaches, more up market hotels and perfect to start your first trip to Turkey! Kemer and tekirova have nice scenic areas but beaches not quite so good! Icemeler will have lots of brits and english style bars etc . We only saw it in april when it was not up and running and although the scenery is quite nice I think it will be Kareoke bars or lively bars!
both places have lovely scenery, not loud and in your face like some other resorts.
I always go to Icmeler but if its peace and quiet you want try Turunc or Akyaka.
Gene
I agree, Akyaka, Turunc or Dalyan all beautiful places, enough to keep you happy, nice people
Would agree although very popular, Icmeler is not quiet, if you want to really chill-out in a traditional small resort as Joan said Turunc,Akyaka or Dalyan. I believe Belek and around although I don't doubt are very nice, are purpose-built resorts.
Yes, Turunc is a nice, fairly quiet resort. You could also takae a look at some of the resorts on the Bodrum peninsular - Yalikavak or Gumusluk are lovely quiet resorts and they are within easy reach of Bodrum by minibus.
i certainly wouldnt recommend tekirova, its the worst place in turkey i have ever visited , 1 street full of bars and restaurants, the only beach we could find belonged to the phaselis princess hotel and that wasnt great. side is ok but again not a quiet resort. i agree with the majority ,turunc or akyaka. i havent been to dalyan yet so cant comment on that. other nice places are bozborun and datca
We stayed at the phaselis princess 11 years ago and it was very good, may need a facelift now! I said the scenery was nice not the beaches but it was no worse than icemeler beach from what I saw!!!! ellie you seem to always to contradict everyone else who posts ! You said the beach at lara is not nice when it is! All the hotels have great stretches of beach with superb water sports and piers. you have not even stayed there!
cesme is another town that might suit , have a read up on all resorts as what suits 1 family doesnt suit another
Anyway not worth arguing with you!
I have been to many other destinations, you seem blinkered on one!
I did not argue with you last time, I made a comment and you was quick to dismiss it!
Get over yourself!
come on keep it friendly........
dont talk to me like that, you are very rude
I have just asked that you keep it friendly...... if you don't then post will start to disappear.......
I am not being rude here so please don't take it as such, just trying to make it easier for you to find a place what will suit you.
I have only been twice and both times to Olu Deniz and while I love it, I actually think that it can be quite a lively and sometimes loud resort, so didn't bother recommending it to the OP.
I am sorry to disagree with you Violet, but I think you are doing Karen a dis-service,
I have seen her recommed many different resorts depending on what a person is actually asking for not just one resort, surely that is what the forum is all about.
I think that shows far more integrity than just recommending the same place time and time again. I know its difficult for some people as all they will have done is gone to say Icmeler or Gumbet, liked it and returned 20 or 30 times. (nothing wrong in that)
I would never go to these places as I have read loads of reviews that tell me about the noise and the wonderful 'no music after midnight' rule lol, where they all turn it off for 10 mins and then back on till 2 or 3 in the morning as reported in numerous reviews.
How can Icmeler be a recommendation for someone who says top of their list is 'peace and quiet ' ? Surely a small traditional resort would suit not somewhere alive with Kareoke and Sky TV.
Well, I love a bit of peace and quiet on my holidays and I absolutely adore Icmeler. The music is turned off at midnight, and I've never heard it getting turned back on again 10 minutes later. Like anywhere else, a holiday is what YOU make of it - do your research first and choose your hotel or apartment very carefully. One man's meat is another man's poison, as they say - some people rave about Blackpool and go back year after year after year, but I spent a day in the place and it was a day too long for me. It's all about horses for courses - one people may love a particular resort and another hate it. It'd be a very dull old world if we all liked the same things.
