katiesmum ,

I don't use prescription goggles, but I have prescription lenses in my diving mask (to see the sharks better!). I've seen some of the prescription goggles on my travels though and they are very good. You can either get the presciption built in to the goggles (quite expensive) or get corrective lenses fitted in to standard goggles / masks (that's what I use). I'd stick to opticians though rather than cheaper sports ones, the quality of the lenses tends to be better but if they just for your hols, it probably won't make much difference. I wouldn't hessitate to get some; for example prescription-swimming-goggles.co.uk.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your reply, I wear glasses and lenses and so does hubby but we manage! as long as I can find my way to a glass of wine then that ok.

The ones we are looking at are Aqua Sphere Eagle, work out about £33`ish from a good local sports shop, he has some in so can go and try for fit and size etc. I appreciate what you are saying about optician but our only problem with that is - Katie has ezcema and many of the goggles available cause the skin round her eyes to dry out and peel, we came across Aqua Sphere about 4 years ago and not sure what they are made out of but are brilliant cause her no irritation at all. The Eagle ones have lenses that you just pop in! most probably sounds easier than it actually is. Will take her this week to see if the goggles acually fit and are cumfy (may be too big as she is only 12 and she has a small size face), then may have to try our optician.

A mask will be something else we have to think about if the goggles work, as she is really into snorkling.

Thanks again for replying.......kids!! who`d have them?? maybe I could put her on a long string then pull her back whenever she gets lost and can`t see us!

katiesmum,

I'd go for it then. As long as they fit properly and don't leek, it'll make a world of difference. I didn't used to wear presciption lenses in my diving mask as I only need glasses for distance (driving mainly). But after getting some, it's like a whole different world again! At £33, I wouldn't class them in the cheapo plastic bracket so they must be good quality ones and will last a while. It's just I've seen really cheap ones made with soft plastic lenses and they tend to scratch really easily. Even a small scratch on glasses can be irrirating and because of refraction when in water (everything appears about 25% bigger and closer than it is), it magnifies things and makes even a small scratch look big and noticable.

Hi
I use Px googles and have bought from both opticians and online
£33 is a reasonable price so if you are happy with the make go for it !

I would not be without them now , if nothing else they stop me plonking myself down on other peoples sunbeds as I have many times in the past !
